Hi!
I'm very new to PS2 and have only had one for a couple of days.
The thing is that I not intrested in installing a chip because I can't afford it. I only intrested in beeing able to play my old PsOne backups. The reason is that I'm thinking of selling the old one. Ok, without a chip I'm toasted I know that but are there any other options? or should I say what are the options..
I'm not so good at soldering and I almost messed my old PsOne up when i installed the chip that have.
Here in sweden a Messiah chip + install costs about $220 so it kind of expensive.
Want to play my old PSX backups on my new 30004 R
You could use the knife-swap trick.... BUT instead of paying the 220 for the Messiah, you would be spending that money on a NEW ps2 in the very short future...... Just try and put back some money to get a mod chip.......

I agree, you managed to come up with the money for the PS2, Save up until you can afford a messiah.

True, I probably have to wait until the chip gets cheeper.
In my opinion it's a rip off that a mod + install costs equal to a new PS2.
Looked arond a bit and I have not much of a choice than get a modchip. well....in the future.

....
I resemble that remark!
CHip prices are falling due to competition. However install time takes the same and whu should a skilled person do a cheap job? They just won't do it.
Calling it a 'rip off' is quite insulting.

It sure is, installing a messiah isnt easy, one slip and the PS2 is ruined, If the installer fries your console you are going to want him to replace it right?? Tell you what, replace all your backups with originals, see what cost more.

WELL SAID Warlock......
Like a old saying goes "If you want to PLAY you got to PAY"
Just for reference..... I paid $413.00 (US) for my 30004R w/Messiah..... I have no regrets AND it was worth EVERY LAST PENNY....
Well that's the going prices for an expert installer/chip.
I see Premoded PS2 Units with Messiah type chips selling for $390-$400 range.
In my opinion it's a rip off that a mod + install costs equal to a new PS2.
AND $50.00 for a game that cost the manufacturer probably $8.00 to produce isn't????
Then the easiest way to avoid the cost of a mod plus the install is "BUY ORIGINAL GAMES" and don't worry about playing backups...

I'm sorry if I insulted anyone.
That was not ment to be..
Of course the person who installs the chip got to be paid and if it is $60-$100 thats fine. Thats not what I ment but the chip shouldn't cost so much. Ok, it's rather new chip and it will probably be cheeper in the near future.
Once again, I'm sorry!

BUT look at all the money it will save you.... In my opionion it well worth it.....As far as insulting someone......It was your opinion....You are entitled to your opinion..... No one will fault you for that..
The other guys were just stating their opinion on the matter.....
So everything is fine.....

Yes, it's worth the money but I think it's a bit much anyway.
For now anyway, I will chip my PS2 some day but I need a DVD burner as well so it might take a while to save all that money.
