Just got a great deal on a PS2, and "upgraded" it with a Messiah Chip from http://www.finalchip.com .
My PS2 is a V5 model SCPH 300004R PAL

My problem is.....

I've borrowed 3 backups from a friend to test my installation, and the following happens:
"Tekken4" & "Donald Duck Goes Quackers" : i get the menu, and the PS2 logo, then a black screen, nothing else.
FIFA WC 2002 works just fine .

They are all on Imation 80 min, made by an "experienced burner" who has by his own words "newer had any problems"
I've followed the boot instructions and other advices i found in this great :D forum.
I guess my chip is working and installed correctly, as i have no problems with FIFA WC 2002
So whats the deal; is it bad medias or do you have another idea to get me "gaming".

Alot of people like imation cdr's, when i tried them i had about a 50% sucess rate so i switched to verbatims, verbatims work great but only have a 16x max write speed. I now use TDK 40x. So far i have yet to burn a coster with the TDK.

I have/use Imation 80min CDRS the most & they work great burning at 4x to 20x.
I only use generic CDRS=FREE like AT&T, Imation, Pny, & Janson all work fine. Have a PhoenixLE/Messiah v4.

Im thinking your lazer, mod is defective or not installed right or your ps2 system is touchy-u just got a weird one.....

Basically they are crap disks, stick with the good brands like verbatim for cd games. Also i would recommend that you stay away from ripped games, as they tend to where away your laser in time with excessive use. If you have the messiah chip get the full version of tekken 4 on DVD-R format. Thats what i would do.

The laser on V5 normally pick up the cd-r game pretty well.......might be differant case if its a dvd-r game.I did come accross the problem that jopper facing now and what I can see is the burning problem...Try to recopy the game but this time reduce the writting speed (normally I reduce down to 8X) and see if that make a differant.............

Hey NightStalker, I know TylerDurden uses these disc also..... What is a rough price for a spindle of 50 or 100?

u usa people should buy princo cdr they burn at high or low speeds np
best part is here in uk they cost me £14 (roughly $22)for 100
they r manufactured in usa so i guess they b bit cheaper for you

us uk customers would love some but we cant they been banned here until the court case is sorted(they break the rules in manufacture to our advantage
u can buy princo dvdr np
but try get princo cdr in the uk its impossible at moment

pop a cdr in a car stereo or a standalone dvd player most old ones wont play them

pop cdr in xbox most wont read it
pop a princo in and away u go it reads it np
you wouldnt believe how many people have complained in past about psx not reading cdr (these disks been about for a couple of years)

all i did was get them use princo cdr

below is a reply i got from my supplier when asked why i they stopped sellin them

At the moment, no Princo discs can legally be brought into the UK.

Until this is sorted, we will not have any more Princo discs. It is likely to take one or two months.
(date was 4th july when i recieved mail)
still not on sale have not heard outcome yet
