Greetings to everyone!
I've been checking out this forum for a couple of weeks now; i just want to begin by saying everyone is very friendly and willing to help! I'm impressed with everyone's attitude. Anyhow, here's what's happening with me:
I've got a v5 PS2 with a No-Solder Modchip (here's a pic: http://www.modchipshop.com/images/fig110.jpg ).
I use a GameShark 2 v 2.11 to boot. I can boot CD-R backups, but I haven't been successful booting any DVD-R backups. Concerning the burning, I use Nero 5.5.8.0, and I've tried Princo and Memorex media. Boot Methods- I've tried everything listed at http://www.psxcopyworld.co.uk/ as well has various boot methods I've seen in posts around here (using GTA 3/Devil May Cry for the large TOC).
If anyone sees that I have missed something or has a suggestion that would be great.

Load GS2, Once it completely loads press eject and swap with a original dvd game.(i use DMC demo). Wait about 30 sec and select gameshark codes, choose any game and turn on or off any code. Then press start, select with codes and press x to load game, you will see a black screen that says updating codes please wait. Immediately do the r-mod swap by pressing and holding eject until the tray ejects, swap the original dvd game with the dvd-r backup, the tray will close after 5 sec and the backup will load.
I am assuming you have a quality dvd-r backup.(not a dvdrip). If this doesnt solve the problem i would suggest you borrow a dvd-r backup(if possible) from a friend thats proven to work. The above boot method loads dvd-r backups EVERY time for me.

Warlock-
I have been asking around for a while and nobody here seems to have a modded PS2, much less know what a modchip is! I live in a pretty small town, and I don't know anyone that has any DVD-R backups. I'll try the boot method you suggested. Thanks for the input! Also, all the backups I've been trying to boot are disc to disc copies of my originals. No rips!

ARGH! My Gameshark is acting up now, so I can't test my new backups I made. At first it said, "ERROR DETECTING HARDWARE" or something along those lines. So, I powered off, reseated the dongle, and restarted. The screen loaded up untill "Updating Code List" at which point it froze and I couldn't proceed. After several restarts, I have gotten no where. I will attempt some more troubleshooting, and if all else fails, exchange the unit for a new one. *sigh*

this happened with my Action replay a while ago, if its the "no hardware detected " message your dongle's faulty and you can get it replaced with a new one from the place u bought it or at worst the distributer of the product..
other than that try booting with the GS in the tray holding L1+L2+R1+R2 this will re-flash the dongle from the GS cd...... works with action replay.... should be the same with the GS
another thing u mentioned u were using 2.11 of the gameshark
with AR2 they stopped dvd-r booting after version 2.2 ... just a thought.

elkayps2-
Thanks for the information. I'm going to exchange the unit, and try as many different boot methods as I can with as many different backups (DVD-R) as I can. If that comes to no avail, I'd like to get a Messiah/Clone. Being as I can't solder my way out of a paper bag, I would need someone to perform the install.
Has anyone here had work performed by www.freedomlives.com ? If so please post the results. In the mean time I will look around to see which no-swap chip is best for me.

Bill at freedomlives.com did my install (Magic 2) and did a wonderful job! Give him a call before shipping, in total my wait time was 5 days including shipping which wasn't bad. It cost me $74 total and the job was professional.
Go with Bill!

Tonytone-
Was the $74 total including or excluding the modchip itself?
NightStalker-
Thanks for verifying that my GS2 v2.11 will indeed boot DVD-Rs!
I was begining to doubt it since I haven't had any luck...lol

$74 was just for the install and shipping, I got the Magic2 from Modchip.ca for $89 US. I didn't mind paying $60 for the install because Bill stands by his work plus the forum reccommended him. And the $89 for Magic2 wasn't bad because I figured the GS would run me at least $30 or so plus the no-sod chip another $30 or so, add in shipping and it's close to $89 plus I don't have to swap.

Well, I exchanged my GS 2 v2.11 for a new one. I then proceeded to try the boot method posted above. Here are the results: (Using DMC for high TOC, with Memorex media)
Blade 2 - boots up to the "loading screen"
Dynasty Warriors 3 - boots to a black screen
Blood Omen 2 - boots to a black screen
I just got some TDK media, so I will give that a try. Do you folks know of any other variable I should change? I appreciate the help so far, keep it comin'!
