Newbie questions - Sorry

Can somebody either point me in the right direction of the best info on making backups of either PS2 or Xbox games.

I need to know a few things.

1 - If i was to buy a DVD Writer of sorts can I make backups without having to rip bits of audio and moves etc. Can this be done for PS2 and Xbox (one or the other or neither).

2 - What's a good source of mod chips info.

Thanks and sorry for the newbie questions.

I'm still not sure wether to get an xbox or a PS2 as yet so some opinions on this would be nice aswell.

Pioneer A04 (104) is the best DVD burner around at the moment, it does full backups.
