drag and drop files to cd-rw

At uni (college) we have burners installed on all computers. We use cd-rw to burn stuff onto. What is extra good about this is that we can drag and drop files onto the h drive (burner).

However, I cannot do this with my burner at home. Apparently you have to format the disk first. Is this right? How do i format it and with what program.

You need a soft which is able to do packet writing. (UDF also)

You need a CD Packet writing software.
Packet writing is a technology that enables the writing of data to a CD-R incrementally, in multiple small blocks of data, rather than in a single block (as in disk-at-once recording), or in blocks defined by tracks (as in track-at-once recording), the other two common methods. Packet writing software makes it possible for you to save data to a CD-R or CD-RW in the same way as it would be saved to the hard drive or a floppy. Not all CD recorders support packet writing, however.
You may also need udf drivers.

So I need software that does packet writing - like what? I have nero 5.5. But I don't want to use a program. I want to have the same function as dragging and dropping a file from hard disk to hard disk. What do I do?

Your writer has to be able of doing IPW (=Incremental Packet writing), check the manufacturers site if your one supports it.

The you can use an UDF-driver (e.g. PacketCD by CeQuadrat) to use your writer like a hd.
