View Full Version : New CD Protection?
I've found this on Bluesnews.com CD Copy Stopper (http://www.technologyreview.com/articles/prototype10902.asp?p=7) . It seems like copying CDs will get complicated in the near future. Anyone have anyone comments please post. I think we should do something about this before it's too late.

Cracking this will be no problem for the groups i suppose.
Copying may be difficult or even impossible, but this protection will be very expensive so it wont make its way to a lot of game CDs.
Note: This thread should be in the Copy protections/Utilities forum, not pc games forum.

Yea I heard of this one. It's just a bit like a dongle only in cd form. It will be easily cracked as the cd-rom has to decrypt the code and at that point a cracker can have a little fun :p .
As emptyeight said, it won't be widely used as it'll be very expensive to implement.
I personally dont think it will be very expensive. If they can get this to mass produce then it'll be relatively cheap. It's only a strip of code to implant it into the cd. They might even have it so you only can use the CD that you install the game with to play it. You dont know what the game makers will do to prevent getting ripped off.

It may not be expensive in a sense of one CD costing 1000$, but it will surely cost a lot more than an "ordinary" CD.
And if you press 1.000.000 CDs the cost adds up.
