View Full Version : Bad Mod Experience. Need Ideas

Heres the deal. I have a US v1 ps2 and I bought the v1-v3 Magic 2 to send to Bill at freedomlives to install it. After a few days I got an email from Bill saying my ps2 has the 010 bios so the chip wont work. Apparently it needs to have the 020 bios. I did lots of research on the Magic 2 to make sure I didnt run into any probs like this. No where have I ever heard anything about needing a certain bios. Now I'm out $90 on the chip and $30 for shipping charges of my ps2 to Bill and back. Any ideas?

The bios problem you are referring to has only recently been found out....(within the last 1-2 weeks).... They are working on it to see if the older bios can be dealt with..... Unfortunately for you it make take some time..... As with all new products there are some bugs that don't surface until the units have already been released......:mad:

This is gonna sound little harsh but I recommend it only if you want..Why not try getting the Neo2.2 chip?
Or Sell your Ps2 Ver.1 to someone and do the same for Magic2 for little bit lower than your cost..Then get a Ver.5/6 or Ver.7 with Magic2? If you want..

Yes, I was considering selling my ps2 and chip and getting new ones. Isn't there some problem that arose with the v7 Magic 2?

Not much of a problem. Only if you really like to play ps1 games.

One of the main problems with the V7/Magic 2 combo ONLY AFFECTS the PAL V7.....
They have some type of problem where it (the PS2 w/magic2)will only let you play Original & Backups of PS1 games of the same region as the PS2.....

Here is the quote from the Magic 2 website regarding this problem...:

- There is a restriction on the Magic 2 v7 applicable to PAL PS2s whereby it can only play PS1 games for the same region as the PS2. So a PAL v7 can only play PAL PS1 games (30002/3/4 are interchangeable in this regard).:cool:
