View Full Version : Another question in regards to PS2 modchips. .

Here's my situation:

I live in the NC area and recently dropped off my PS2 at a shop to get chipped with the Messiah. Unfortunately, I received a call later in the day from the owner telling me that the chip could not be put in the PS2 because it was on backorder, and wouldn't be in for about another 3 weeks (this was about a week ago..so from today, I have two more weeks) -- I had two choices. Get a swap chip put in, or bring it back in when they had more in.

I decided to leave the PS2 at the shop; I head back to college at the end of this week in Greensboro, and there's no one I know of in that area who can install a modchip. My question is..was that the wise choice? I've noticed that the U.S. Messiah is out of stock everywhere, and to be honest I'm not *entirely* sure if my version PS2 is compatible with it, but the person in charge of soldering only said they were out of chips..nothing about an incompatible version.

The total cost was $120, which for a Messiah and installation, I found to be a good deal in comparison to ordering the Magic Chip, sending it off to Bill in Chicago, and paying the installation/shipping costs..that whole total if I'm not mistaken, comes out to somewhere close to $200 ($80 for the magic chip, $60 for the installation, $30 for shipping to Bill, and then back..) so by comparison..it seems much cheaper and prudent to do it here for $120.

Of course, I'm afraid of waiting the three weeks for the chip to arrive and find out that it can't be installed in my PS2, or something equally horrible. With my luck, something like that is bound to happen. As I stated before..I'm not entirely sure what version PS2 I have..I can only tell you that it's either a v4 or v5 (got it around Christmas; R model). I was wondering if anyone here can offer some advice on my situation? I know that modchips aren't exactly cheap, and I found $120 to be a reasonable price..but considering that 90% of the things I'm playing are only imports (the other 10% are the few PSX copies I made of some imports..) $200 may be better spent on a Japanese console.

*Any* help is appreciated..I'd really like the modding experience to go as well as it did with my PSX..

It will run 60.00 for install with Bill not 80 since you got Ver.4 or 5 the $80.00 applies to Ver.1-3 PS2's..
It shouldn't cost you no more than $90.00 total..
$60.00 For labor
$10.00 to ship on 2-3 day priority mail
$15.00 from Bill to you with Prioty mail..
About $85.00 but you need to get a box and bubbles for protection.
My advice is Magic2 is..There are no Current messiah's that support R model machines..Messiah only supports Ver.4 with Certain date codes..

..Crap. Thanks for letting me know about this in advance then. That's a pretty disheartening thing to know that my PS2 isn't going to be compatible with the Messiah. If that's the case, I'd better go up to the shop tomorrow and get it back along with my money. I still can't help but feel let down, so much trouble and expense to go through so I can play my imports...I'll make sure of my console model before I get it back though, so I'll know which chip to order. Ugh, one disappointment after another..

Hang in there..Once you get Magic2 everything should work out..
Send it to Bill..Fast service..

Oh, not to bug you again..but what's this thing about a U.S. Messiah I've seen? I looked on Lik-Sang's site and it showed a Messiah Chip that's supposedly compatible with all versions of the PS2 (1-6 anyway) but naturally..it's out of stock.

I think you're talking about the Full NTSC Messiah..This chip is fully compatible with Ver.1-7.The reason it got held back was due to Ver.7 getting released..But now they're just lazy as hell releasing the da** chip period..
This was suppose to get release way back..
I tell you this much though on PAL machines the current Messiah works fine..But your option is Magic2..It's Good Chip..
If you Messiah and got it working on the NTSC machine there is catch which is the PS1 Game color problem..Color is little off from the typical normal screen..With Magic2 it's fixed..

The US Messiah has STILL NOT BEEN RELEASED.....
I'm not sure if anyone knows the date when (if ever) it will
finally come out.... No reason to wait on it since the Magic 2 is out now....

Magic2 all the way..Forget to mention also that Magic2 fixed the Gameshark problem.Very earlier version of Magic2(Blue PCB) had problems with it..Some codes didn't load or game period didn't load at all due to GS. Now it's fixed..
