View Full Version : Major PS2 Backup Problem - Help
OK here is my setup
V4 non solder modchip
AR v 1.93
I am working with espn nba 2night 2002...
my burner is not RAW-DAO compatible so I can't 1:1 burn in CLoneCD or NEro .... although I have both program. When I inserted the backup when AR says insert disc, it begins reading the backup, and then stays on that screen and never loads the backup. What am I doing wrong ? What could be the problem?
HELP!

read w/ clone cd patch (if it needs it) write w/ cdrwin
1st upgrade you burner to a 100% compatible Clone CD drive....
Then READ & WRITE with Clone CD......
Also, do you have any other backups (on the same media) that WILL boot....?

Correct. There is no substitute for CloneCD.
That is pretty ridiculous. I don't have the funds to go out and buy a brand new CD burner at the drop of a hat, especially when this one is extremely fast and meets all of my other needs. There has to be a another way to get this information from the data cd to the backup and make it play. What is the CDWIN method that was mentioned?
Could someone please give me some detailed instructions?

I am not sure but i think that this game is not locked cause i copied it my self with nero and not clone cd and also with out RAW-DAO method. for me it worked just fine.. what about if you use the swap method? instead of the usual?
ps. thanxs charlie for your suggestions and letting me know about your post "understanding DVD - DVD-r issues...."
seems now that my ps2 is getting over the sickness of booting dvd-r backups.. and boots more often maybe my laser is fine and the prob is in my head.
What swap method did you use? And how exactly did you do it?

I had trouble with my V5 US NTSC No Solder Mod--doesn't work well with 700MB CDR--unless extremely high quality--if the game consumes more than about 40% of the CD (280MB or more). Check the comparison list to see if 80 minut CDR is guaranteed to work--if not, this MAY be your problem.
I re-ripped some failed games on 650MB CDR (even from the failing 700MB Dupe) and they do fine. I've even gone back and re-ripped some PS2 CDR's onto 650, and they seem to load slightly faster, and stress the drive much less.
See if anyone will swap you a few 650's for some 700's--or for a better quality 650 just to try it out. I've been having good luck with some Maxell 24X 650MB with a slightly goldish/silver bottom (they come in a gold Box with jewel cases, or a Gold labeled spindle--the CDR portion of the label is on a Blue background)
Good Luck!
I am actually using 650 mg Pioneer CDR's to burn with, so that is definitely not the problem.

Just curious what version you using, they've released several versions this year. Another thing you might try is checking the firmware of your drive. My Pacific Digital had an update that fixed some trouble with newer media--Those Pioneer blanks may be high quality, but don't mean squat if your drive can't write them properly. And don't tell me they do other discs fine--mine did too, until I got some real tricky sources to rip. A new firmware may also fix DAO compatability as well, or at least give you TAO as an option to try. http://www.firmware.fr.st/
Best rule of thumb--make sure EVERYTHING is patched and updated--including your OS and firmwares. I've even seen freaky DirectX bugs mess with audio ripping before. You never know....
Good Luck

You have the "Major PS2 Backup Problem".
So advice provided to help you far from ridiculous. We don't know your financial position and many of us, including me in the past, have accepted the advice I gave you and never looked back.
You did not bless us with the details of your CD burner so I can'r comment on its suitability in RAW mode for CDRWin (which has the same requirements as for Nero.
CDRWin is a solution for protected games provided that you have the patches to overcome copy protection. These patches are usually found at www.megagames.com. CDRWin tutorial can be found at www.psxcopyworld.co.uk. RAW mode is required.
