Just so as you all know, i still havent figured out how to make an exact copy of GTA3, im able to copy it, but i have to use the crack to use it, what i wanted to do was copy it and change the Data2.cab file so that when it installed it would automatically have the crack, call me lazy but i thought it would be interesting to work it out...

I was able to change the original GTA3.exe file with the fixed version in the Data2.cab although when i wrote the new CD it would not install.

Has anyone got anymore suggestions as to how to make it install. I was told to de-compile the Data1.Hdr file with InstallSheild De-Compiler, but the person who told me to use it, didnt know how to use it, im afraid i wasnt able to figure it out either. Does anyone here know how to use it, if so tell me or give me another solution to my problem...

No ive no problem with that playing it,

i wanted to make a copy that i wouldnt have to use the crack on because it would automatically install the crack with the rest of the game.

the GTA3.exe file is inside the Data2.cab file on the install disk, ive changed it with a fixed version exe but now it wont install to my computer...

any suggestions? i was told that i6comp would automatically change the data1.hdr file so it should work in theory, but it doesnt...

Have u tried taking the copy protection of the GTA exe and then placing that in the data.cab that should work. Just a theroy havent tried it myself yet. I need help myself i need a program so i could access the data.cab. If u know how could you please help. (i would be in your debt) :)

yea there is program called i6comp.exe, if you go back a few forum pages and look for my posts, it will be under (GTA3.exe Data2.cab) and there is links in there for the file somewhere and notes on how to use it if you read it all.
when using the file, it is not enough to double click it, it will just vanish from the screen, you have to open command prompt and open it from that.
e.g. if you place it in your c:\ directory you type this: c:\i6comp.exe
that willopen the program
to view the file inside the data2.cab you have to know where it is located
e.g. c:\i6comp.exe l: [Location of data2.cab] *.*
that should let you see everything inside the cab, theres quite a bit so if you use the Pause/Break key at the top of the keyboard to stop and view the files. or if you know the name or the file your looking for i.e. gta3.exe type this

c:\i6comp.exe l: [Location of data2.cab] gta3.exe

Right dude let me get this straight i download this i6comp extract to windows command folder.
c:\windows\command
Go to the command folder and open i6comp by right clicking and enter the command to open the program and then to where the exe is for example GTA3.exe.
so
c:\ directory you type this: c:\i6comp.exe
then
c:\i6comp.exe l: [Location of data2.cab] gta3.exe.
k this is where i get lost i dont know how to replace files. (or will it do this automatic)
i read in some other post that someone had trouble closing the data2.cab how do i do this ?

Errrrrrrm....... why dont you just read the game to an imge at 4x with CloneCD and then burn it at maximum speed then you dont need no cracks or anything, it is the same as orignal. Thats what I did and mine works fine :p

Because not all cd-writers are capable of doin this and/or maybe he wants to experiment with new tools and new techniqes.

If you read his first post it says he wants to make an exact copy so I told him how. Dont blame me if he didnt write what writer he has, I dont know so I just writ it ok!

i have an lg 8160 b but the thing is i tried that a it didnt move the image so i thought why not try the cab file way. U never know it could be handy in the future :D

right have u tried inserting a different crack into the cab file. but the only thing wrong with that is you might not be able to place the update patch on. Thats All

Just FYI, this is how I got on with GTA3 cabs - done it for a bit of experimentation.

I downloaded this version (http://www.megagames.com/console/cd/i6comp02.zip) of i6comp. This is not the version that Darksoul posted - Shaman posted this link.

I placed all the files needed including i6comp into the main folder used (whatever folder that is default when you start up Command Prompt - I used XP so it was something like C:\Documents & Settings\User

I then went about replacing the exe using the normal process:
i6comp r data1.cab gta3.exe gta3.exe

I then burned a copy of the disk with these new files (data1.cab, data2.cab and data1.hdr)
It installed and played perfectly with no errors- note I used the v1.1 exe (I first installed this patch to obtain this exe before using the above method).


Using the i6comp that Darksoul posted caused an error just before installation - the .bmp error.
Using the fixed exe on Gamecopyworld for V.1.1 (as I was too lazy to install the patch to get the exe myself) also did not work out.

thx for the advice on gta3 and hey it worked so now i have a quick question for ya. With NeverWinter Nights there is the new securom and Online Authentication protection. What is with this online Authentication and what is its purpose and what does it do ? Is it only used for multiplayer ?

I can play the game with no cd but I do not get any of the text in the game. Menus and game play. Any one else get this? Any ideas?

Hey dude
This poblem has been answered many times before. It cause of windows xp. Do a search on GTA3 and youll find a link to download the patch or the answer is in the gta3 readme file.
In furture do a search of the forum if no luck then ask THNX :)

Sorry I don't have NWN just yet - getting soon. I'm guessing that it does a CRC check on the main exe when you try to connect to a multiplayer server - I think there are some fixes for it possibly but I have not looked at any of them yet cos I don't have the game yet.

I have been working on my NWN trying to get a perfect copy but with no succes yet i have tried replacing the exe with i6comp but had no success cause of CRC. Have to hate that. Burning with heaps of programs but tonight im gunna give CLONE 4.0.1.6 ago and see how it goes. If my burner is an lg 8160b its says it supports efm encoding this means that i tick or untick AWS.

Update to Clone CD 4.0.1.9
Securom does not need correct EFM coding - you only need a writer that is capable of reading and writing subchannel data. Your LG should be able to copy it without problems - remember to enable Hide CD-R Media in the Clone CD Tray incase it has an ATIP check.

UseClony XXL (http://clony.insomnia-online.net/) to get the correct settings to use with Securom New.

no body worries bout age here. You will find it is a challenge always trying to backup your cds with out addtional patches. I started using this forum i think 2-3 months ago and in that space of time i have learnt heaps. :)

with the older version of i6comp there r heaps more files than the new. This is the first time i have usd i6comp and i started with the latest but with the one u posted there r heaps more files i was just wondering where to rxtract them all to. I know u have to put the i6comp.exe into Windows\commands for 98. And the rest i dont have a clue.:confused:

I finally got it! Now the CRC check is bypassed!:))))))))))) and installation works perfect with those anoying games...;)

Soon i will post how to proceed..It's quite simple with i6comp (not fixed version: original which is 116 kb in size)but it's quite complex when trying to add the file into the correct file groups....otherwise...fails..

By now F1 2002 and Grand prix 4 which includes these CRC system has been "fixed". Vetch..hope i could teach you how to proceed

I extracted the archive into the appropiate folder (for XP - C:\Documents & Settings\user) then I copied the i6comp.exe from it's folder (Release folder) into the root folder above (just to be sure) and continued from there. Most of the files in that aren't used I don't think.

The method in my other post above worked perfectly for GTA3 and it installs and plays fine (I used the 1.1 exe)
