Hi,

I have a 'version 3' PAL PS2 (i think), I just bought an Action Replay 2 Version 2 card. I dont have a mod chip, but i read you can play backups and DVD rips by using a 'knife swap' method.

I ripped GTA3 and Gran Turismo 3 on to CD by using rip kits from Mega Games website. every think went smoothly.

I did the knife swap trick - followed the exact instructions, did everything right, but the rips just don't boot.
I tried many time without any success. I even tried psx 1 backups without any success.

I tried the EA method, but when I release the power button the drive doesnt eject as it should do.

Can someone please help me.

Thanks

We can help you by telling you to stop using the knife trick. You might as well just throw your PS2 away now if you carry on using that method. You will knacker the tray mechanisms very quickly.

A lot of us on here use Messiah chips for no-swap easy booting.

Regarding your DVD-Rips, what patching software/procedure did you use/follow?

I dont need to ask how you are booting (breaking your PS2) them...

I just used the GTA3 PAL DVD RIP KIT by TRIBBLE2000 REASSEMBLED by TeRRaLiX, I didnt patch it, I thought the rip kit patches it up. If not what patch shall I use?

I know im damaging my ps2 but please tell me how to boot without MOD chip.

Thanks

Statement: I know im damaging my ps2 but please tell me how to boot without MOD chip.

The easiest way to boot without a mod chip is to BUY ORIGINAL GAMES and not even try to play backups..... You are taking a very big chance with a delicate piece of equipment.... Unless you would like to have a very expensive BOAT ANCHOR I would suggest buying a mod chip..........

I Dont think a screwed PS2 would make a very good Boat Anchor... I think it would be better used as:

a) A coffee holder; the disc tray suits even the biggest coffee cup.

b) Replacement for that broken leg on your couch;

or

c) A great way to entertain you and your friends; Simply drill a big hole right through the center of it, tie a rope through the hole, and tie the rope to the tow bar of your car, then drive around schools and shopping centres watching the children cry as they watch a PS2 get shredded apart by the road. I bet you could drive around for at least an hour before it shredded away to nothing or before the cops pulled you up!

You would need to get your knife back out to wedge open the knackered tray though !

No offense but get yourself a Modchip preferly Messiah since you got a Pal Ver.3 which is compatible with current Messiah(Now even cheaper due to the newer Messiah on the way).
Do you really want to spend additional $200.00(At least in US currency)for a brand new machine all because you want to avoid gettting the Modchip it's not worth it. I'm not sure what the reason is but ask yourself that question.
Messiah 100% Direct Boot everything, I mean that.
Any game you throw at it direct boot. Of course given that back ups are burned correctly. I mean originals aren't burnt so no hassle on booting problems.
Make the right decision before the machine gets damaged and then $$$ out of your pocket with screaming and agony.

Getting a mod is way better than stuffing up your PS2 with a knife. I was thinking of using the knife method but eventually i will have to use my PS2 as a Coffee cup holder (good idea Butane-X) there is no point in using da knife method........ U will only be able to use it for a while then your Ps2 will be stuffed
