View Full Version : burnin a CD with XP OS ..is it ok?
i just inserted a blank CD and XP reads it as a blank CD..i moved the extract files from a ps2 bin file..burned it on there...it dont work...so...
i should use like clone CD or somethin right?
If the game you burned is a CD game, use Clone CD with ClonyXXl if your burner FULLY supports it. What type of burner do you have? What type of modchip do you have? What type of media are you using? As far as Windows XP goes, haven't had any problems...
i'm usin a old skool ACER 4 speed burner....never bought a higher speed or any other brand cuz it works and it burns...get's the job done...i'm using 80minute 700mb non-labeled CD's..they're just silver on top..don't have a brand on it...i never had any problems with these CD's...
and i'm usin the mod cube and DVD Region X combo..

Without knowing the exact model of your burner I'm not sure if it is fully Clone CD compatible or not..... If its not fully compatible it won't burn sub-channel data correctly... As far as the brand of CD, it CAN be very important to if will work or not... You said you have never had any problems with the brand of cd or the burner, have you ever had a backup that you burned on these that worked in you chipped PS2....
this is my first try yo...the Acer CD burner model is "CRW4432A"
right now i'm trying other programs...see which one will work with the burner...so far i can't find one that reads BIN files...clone CD don't read bin files does it?
i loaded up CDRWIN and i dont' have aspi drivers...i'm about stuckk here...lol

I don't think your burner support Clone CD fully (its not on the list of being supported). Considering it a older model I would suggest getting a newer burner that supports Clone CD FULLY.... Where are you getting the BIN files? Do you have the original game, or have you downloaded it.....?
i download all my games...hmm...guess i can't play burned games then....i'll just get me a pioneer Ao4 or something

Try copying from a original CD based game.. Also note: the Pioneer A03 or A04 will not write sub-channel data correctly.. Would suggest getting a Good CD burner that is FULLY CLONE CD compatible AND the Pioneer A03 or A04 for copying DVD based games..... Also, if you can, drop the modchip you have and get a MESSIAH.......
lol yeah the shipment came in today...i found out after i ordered it...but is there messiah in the US?
also,, the DVD burner will be good for DVD games like FFX...i need that game...
what's a good CD Burning burner??? i'l prolly get one next month or so and the DVD burner.. oh yeah what good DVD burner is there too...besides the AO4

It depend on what version PS2 you have... The messiah out now works in PAL PS2's and a limited number of US PS2's. (V5 i think). The US messiah is due out any time now. Most everyone of the forum uses Yamaha 2100 or 2200, and some Plextor, and LITE-On. I use the LG-GCE 8320B. Awesome drive and reasonably priced (75-95 US dollars). As far as the DVD burner try to stay with the Pioneer A03 or A04.... They have proven thereselves as being the top dog in PS2 backups.....
on the burner u got...where did u purchase it at...i live near Fry's Electronics store...i'll visit the store once again tomorrow...i went today for a soldering gun...heheh...$75-$95 is my price range..i think i can get one...but the DVD burner is a wait...
thanks for helpin me man

I bought mine online off of E-Bay. They have them in most computer stores.... Its a 32X burner... I love it...... If the store you mentioned deals alot with computers if they don't have it, they sould be able to order it.....
oh yeah man..fry's electronics is a great store...i'm located at austin texas...the store has parts to build from bottom up..everything!!...decent price too..but some are just too much..
Try Pricewatch.com..Look under search or actually there is List under Drives and it shows DVD rom and CDR Drives and etc..
For Best results on PS and PS2 CD format games Use TDK, Sony or Verbatim's..For PS2 DVD-Roms Use TDK DVD-R's,Sony(They're all right)Verbatim,Pioneer or Apple(Never used it but people Highly recommended)..You heard the term "You get what you paid for!! Sometimes this does apply..
Personally I got 2 8X Scsi Plextor Writers(Externals) for CDRs and A03(Firewire External) for DVD-R's..
As BG mentioned earlier Clone CD is excelllent(I use it for making Copy of a Copy) and CDRwin(For Original to Copy)finally Prassi for A03..Always Make Image First and then burn the Image back to the Media..Also I can't say for everyone but Burning slower Speed will have better results..I heard so many people getting problems with burning beyond 16X and up that Ps2 won't load CDR's..
Not for DVD-R's since the Highest is 2X speed..
yup i heard it's better to burn CD's slow...
thanks for all the info..i know about pricewatch...just really didn't think about that...
if this mod cube dont' work, i'll get me the messiah chip once they have it...i just really really recently bought my ps2. i'm guessing it's a version 6 or something..i cnat' find the board diagram on the internet that matches mine..but i'm pretty sure it works cuz it's doin something...my burned CD's just don't load up prolly cuz of the XP OS...i dont'have any programs to burn..so i'll just wait to get a new burner...
thanks yo

Your XP thing obviously doesn't work, why not try using a regular burning program, like nero, cdrwin, clonecd, discjuggler, fireburner...like eveyone has been saying.
And as far as another type of DVD burner, contrary to popular belief, you dont HAVE TO GET A PIONEER A03/4... I have a Que! DVD Burner (works perfectly, I've done over 100 games, and a few hundred movies on it), my boy has a Vivistar DVD Burner (just got it, he's done 10 or 20 games and it works perfectly). The vivistar, you can get it at www.tigerdirect.com (it's $269), the Que! I got it at Compusa for like $450 (but that was over a year ago)
Blank CD-R's, specific brands might be the right choice, my Ps2 only works with Verbatim 74's. As for DVD-R's, I've used TDK, Verbatim and some no name brand ($1.28 each...lol) and they've all worked.
