I'm new to the PS2 chip scene so I've been hearing alot of talk of the Messiah and the upcoming release of the Messiah LE.

However, when I looked at this Canadian Chip seller they sell the Neo 4 and Neo 4 Plus. I hear they're bad but why? And how bad is bad? If your system is compatible is this comparible to the Messiah?

I dug this up from a FAQ somewhere:

NEO4 - The first noswap CDR mod out. The Neo4 will boot PS2 CDR with no swap. PS2 DVDRs still require one swap, which does NOT require a GS2/AR2. The Neo4 can be used in combination with the Origa for no-swap everything. This mod requires 44 wires to be soldered to the motherboard for 100% functionality.

NEO4.1 - Updated verion of Neo4. The Neo4.1 supports more consoles, has the latest DVD drivers and faster boot than the Neo4, that is the only differences. This mod requires 44 wires to be soldered to the motherboard for 100% functionality.

Is the chip above the Neo4.1? It says that only 9 wires are required to be soldered, but the FAQ says 44.

Any information would be helpful.

Hi,

The NEO4 modchip is not a BAD chip, its just has not got the same spec of a Messiah. The NEO4 was released first and then soon after the Messiah which has a better spec.

It dpends what you want from your modchip, i know 2 peeps that have NEO4's and very happy with them and i also know a few peeps who have Messiahs and very pleased with them.

Its your choice m8.

I've been reading that the Neo4.5 has 44 wires to solder (which to me seems like of work) but this one only says 9 wires ... which leads me to assume that they're talking about this dreaded clip thingie.

I suppose there's a reason the Messiah is so popular ... that's cuz it's better than the competition.

Even with the clip, you can't even consider the NEO4 whilst there is the noswap Messiah.

Neo4 doesn't:

Boot import originals
Boot EA CD games without a swap
Boot DVD-Rs without a high TOC swap which will eventually catch you out

Hummm..Let's see, If i get a neo4 i will have to solder 44 wires, Patch some EA games to get them to load, I cant play import originals, i must swap to play dvd-r backups and sooner or later will have to replace my laser because the damn chip burnt it up:D
Or, I can get a messiah from charlie and boot EVERYTHING no swap and better yet without any problems.. The choice should be obvious.
Hey charlie, I to need a US messiah, email me the info @[email protected]. Thanks.:)
