I have an oppurtunity to purchse a V1 ps2 and need to know if it is problematic regarding the use of backups. So far most of the feedback I have gotten leads me to believe V5 is the best bet! What about V6???? Thanks for the help!

v5 is the best bet in conjunction with Messiah. v6 is v5.x.
v1 will likely have an iffy laser diode which means you won't be able to play DVD-Rs.

Thanks again for the help Charlie! Is this a full time job for you or what? Anyway, is there a difference in V5 and V6(V5.x)? Also, should I wait for the new messiah and what are the differences from earlier versions?

v5.x has a disk drive plug upside down to defeat the original R-Mod.
The new Messiah, Messiah 2 will be the full version that suports Macrovision defeat (so you can record your DVD movies to VCR) and has Region Free so you can boot out-of region DVD movies.

What is the Rmod(please excuse the ignorance I am catching on)? Charlie- I meant is there any performance differences in V5 and V6(5.x)? I would assume if Sony were on top of things they would realize that we need the stronger lasers for backups and return to them????

No performance difference between v5 and v5.1.
