I have made several backups of My Tekken 4 import, and I cant get any of the copies to work at all. 4 DVD-R's, all seem to have perfect Images, but none will boot using any of the booting methods. I used the DVD-R's that I was tols work, and I got Primo to work, and burned it eaxtly as told.
I used TDK DVD-R for the last one I burned, and still nothing.... Is there a boot method that works? Will My chip even play DVD-R backups?
I read that the No Solder R version 5 did just fine for DVD-R's, then I read it didnt boot anything over 640mb... Which is it? Did I do something wrong?
Yes they can.
Have you tried using this method
HOW TO BOOT DVDR BACKUPS WITH AR2V2 and PS2 No-Solder R-Mod
1. Put the dongle into slot 2.
2. Load the AR2v2 disk.
3. At the main screen press "Eject".
4. Swap the AR2v2 disk for a BIG DVDrom ORIGINAL
(It must be bigger than the DVDr you want to load).
5. Select "CODES".
6. Select "DAVE MIRRA".
7. Press "X" to choose the cheat.
EVERY CHEAT SHOULD BE ACTIVE.
8. Press "Start".
9. Select "Start game WITH codes".
10. Press "X".
A message will say "Too many codes active".
The DVD original will now stop spinning.
11. Now hold eject till the disk comes out, and swap with your backup DVD
the disc will go back in after 5 seconds.
12. Press "X".
You will be taken back to the "CODES" screen.
13. Press "Start".
14. Select "Start game WITHOUT codes".
15. Press "X".
The DVDr backup will now boot.
The next time you boot a DVDr (as long as you havent selected a different cheat code)
you can miss out sections 5,6 & 7.

I tried that method as well, but nothing. After the too many codes screen, I hold it, replace it, it closes, I hit X, and nothing... it's locked at the too many codes screen....
Ok, how about this 1
(1) Boot AR2/GS2 disc 1.
(2) At the main screen (picture 1), press the EJECT button to eject the CD tray.
(3) Replace the AR2/GS2 disc with an original PS2 DVD game, such as Dead or Alive 2.
(4) Close the CD tray (press EJECT again) and wait for about 30 seconds.
(5) Select START GAME (picture 2) and then select WITHOUT CODES (picture 3).
(6) Once the AR2/GS2 is asking to change the game disc (picture 4), press the EJECT button till the light changes from green to orange.
(7) The CD tray will now open and you can replace the DVD game with your backup copy.
(8) The CD tray will automatically close after about 5 seconds.
(9) Wait till the the power LED changes from orange to green again and press X now to start the game.

There is a "play fix" patch and a EA patch at http://www.megagames.com/ps2/ps2_patches_t.shtml
Its worth a look.

I dont know about the AR2 but this boot method works for me using GS2 v2x.
Load GS2, After it completely loads swap with hi TOC dvd original.
Wait about 30 sec, then select gameshark codes, choose a game and turn on or off any code. Then press start, select with codes and press x to load game, a black screen should appear saying updating codes please wait. When you see this press and hold eject until tray opens and swap original with dvd-r backup, you have about 5 sec, tray will close and game will boot.

Chow yun fat, I have a US v5 with a lik-sang no solder mod. I have GS2 v 1.93, 2.01 and 2.03. ALL WILL BOOT DVD-R with this mod.
pjclark1, I read just fine, If YOU had read the info in his signature you would have seen he uses the GS2 v2. I am not going to get into a flaming contest with you or anything like that however i do think you got your facts mixed up as far as dvd-r booting using GS2 v2x

Nightstalker, what is the booting method you use for the DVD-R games?
NightStalker

Load GS2, Once it completely loads press eject and swap with a original dvd game.(i use DMC demo). Wait about 30 sec and select gameshark codes, choose any game and turn on or off any code. Then press start, select with codes and press x to load game, you will see a black screen that says updating codes please wait. Immediately do the r-mod swap by pressing and holding eject until the tray ejects, swap the original dvd game with the dvd-r backup, the tray will close after 5 sec and the backup will load.
I am assuming you have a quality dvd-r backup.(not a dvdrip). If this doesnt solve the problem i would suggest you borrow a dvd-r backup(if possible) from a friend thats proven to work. The above boot method loads dvd-r backups EVERY time for me.

To all of you that trying the dave mirra trick with the new AR2 V2.1 (new v) and it Doesn’t work .
I will explain what I done:
1. create a new entry in the code list and call this game code "DVD-R"
2. create an empty code entry in this "DVD-R" game code and call this entry "dummy-code"
3. Boot the ps2 with the AR2, then swap (just regular eject) the AR2 disc with a DVD original larger then the DVDR you trying to boot and wait 20 sec.
4. chose AR codes from the main menu and turn on or off this "dummy-code" before you start the game .
5. chose start game-with codes and press X then it says updating code list and in this exact time press the eject for 2 sec for open the tray with the r-mod chip and swap the original DVD with the DVD-r.
Good luck

Thanks a million man!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p :D :) ;)

Hi, I am a bit confused with all this. I have a stealth 4 PnP v5 chip-no solder-chip and AR2 v2.12. I have the following backup titles:
1. NO-ONE LIVES FOREVER
2. GIANT CITIZAN KABUTO
3. SPIDERMAN THE MOVIE
4. SIMPSONS ROAD RAGE
5. 007 AGENT UNDER FIRE
6. VAMPIRE NIGHTS
I can only play Spiderman-Simpsons. They are less than 650MB, that is why i can play only these 2. Is there anything i can do to play the other titles?
cheers

I have seen what PJCLARK was talking about listed many times on different forum lists. There may be early release 2.03's that slipped through or something that do in fact work--but the general rule is you need prior to 2.03--1.9x seems to be the favorite.
You aren't using the standard swap method anyway. Maybe your way is in fact a work around for the versions that won't do it the normal way? Did you consider this before you fingered Clark?
Please make sure the info is correct before misleading the general public. the 1.7-2.02 has become the de facto standard for a reason--it is the typical solution that works 100% of the time.

Listen djb1436, Until you get your facts straight maybe you should just take a seat. The info i posted is absolutely correct concerning GS2 as well as the boot methods. As you can see from chows post it did work so i fail to see the problem. I didnt single out Pjclark or anyone else. Pjclark is a smart guy, i have read all his post, I simple posted a working swap method that he didnt know. Next time he may know something i dont, Thats what this forum is for. The boot method i posted has helped alot of people play there dvd-r backups that couldnt with the normal swap. If you are looking for someone to flame or are just having a bad day then go to some other site and start a argument but dont try to bash me for helping chow yun fat or any other member of this forum that has a problem.[list]

Hi Teo, Dvd rips are limited to a TOC of 640mb. If the rip is over this it simply will not load, my advise with this chip is to stick with direct backups, cd to cd-r, dvd to dvd-r and you wont have any problems.

hi to all. I know that the No solder, Stealth 4 v5 will not boot DVD rips which r over 650MB. I have heard that you can combine this mod with others such as the PNPBOX to allow the use of 80 min CDR. Is it true?PNPBOX is the same as the NEOKEY SBOX? IF yes how is it done? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Night, you misunderstood what I was trying to say--and I guess it was my fault for not presenting it more nicely (sorry!) Some important info was being overlooked, and you ripped into clark, that is all I was saying.
Chow had not mentioned his version info. Clark was telling him what version numbers were required for the swap methods generally used, and had been posted in this thread. He in fact was telling the truth so far as he and everyone else in this thread knew, and thus had become standard practice. You had a new method to offer that was successful for you, and no one else had any knowledge of. You guys started ripping on each other. All I was saying is take a step back and read and and analyze all the info before you essentially call someone an idiot or a liar. It appeared you had not considered the fact that your idea was new and untested by anyone else, and that the conventional method which does require a specific range of version numbers for success wasn't working.
Perhaps you could start a thread to post this other method for others to try...it may help unclog the channels a bit. Some alternative methods I've seen can cause the tray to open while the disk is still spinning--I launched my Jedi-Starfighter DVD across the room one time because my timing was off! (my box is mounted vertical)
All you had to say is"hey, I've got a method that does work with these other version numbers--check it out"--but instead you chose to rip on clark and say he didn't know what he was talking about. In fact, he did....he just didn't know what you were talking about, because it was completely new. This forum is here to present new ideas, and help others. We appreciate the help, but it is hard to work your way through the thread when every other post is ripping into someone and negating everyone's tried and tested methods.
Thanks for putting up with our misguided efforts to figure this out....

DONT SINGLE ME OUT!!!I didnt rip pjclark any more than he did me, In fact if thats ripping then isnt that what you are doing to me??!. Chow posted his PS2 info in his signature for everyone to see, all anyone had to do was look, (yourself included). I learned this boot method in a forum like this one a few months ago so it isnt anything new or unheard of. Sometimes a little effort is needed to find the info, like using the FREE search engine that is provided to all members of this forum. This boot method has been posted several times in the past (as other members can concur) long before you or pjclark were members although it is easer for alot of members and newbie's ask stupid questions or blurt out false accusations than it is to use the search function, Also, shouldn't pjclark have done a little research before posting WILL NOT BOOT DVDr (no matter who tells you different) When me and millions of other people do it every day?? Get your facts straight!! As far as i am concerned this thread is over!!! If anyone needs help with there no-solder or has a booting problem please start a new thread.

"Chow posted his PS2 info in his signature for everyone to see, all anyone had to do was look, (yourself included)"
All it says is GS2 version 2---I've seen at least 8 versions mentioned in these forums regularly. That's all I'll say about that.
As for who ripped who first, "You dont know what you are talking about!! " was the first rip--and it was in your post. Clark was technically correct--the GS2 will not "BOOT DVD-R". you have to trick it. To his knowledge, there was only one way to trick the GS2 to play DVDR--and as stated, you have to have 1.7-2.02 to Boot them "properly". I'm not sure, but I would imagine there could be some problems if the timing is not right with your method. If by chance it is done a bit too late, the disc could start spin-up as the tray opens. Mine takes almost 25 seconds before spin up with this method--but then again, I have ver 2.11, with a big code list. Again, he did know what he was talking about as far as he knew--your way may be known to veterans, but not to new people--and that reaction was a bit harsh and uncalled for.
As for "Singling Out"--you started it. You flamed him, and you flamed me. As for researching an issue--I do. I subscribe to 5 different forum lists--some also for PC games. Although I'm new to the PSX/PS2 scene(2 months now), I've been ripping and cracking games/CD's/DVD's for over 5 years now and I've learned a few things here and there. I'm on at least one or two lists every night, and don't post a lot because I usually find what I need, or someone else has posted what I would have to say. When I do post, if I am unsure if the information is reliable--I SAY SO. Likewise, if I do provide misinformation, I apologize and correct it. I tried to credit you for presenting a work-around for an otherwise flawed combination, and you ripped me. I've even tried to apologize to you, and you ribbed me again.
I'm not having a bad day, and I'm not looking to flame anyone or start an argument---I'm just trying to make sure the facts are straight and no one gets mislead. I nearly trashed my box because I had been mis-informed. Fortunately, I've had my hands in the guts of computers, dvd/cd players, vcr's, tv's, and a few game boxes and arcade machines for nearly 10 yrs now, and was able to stop myself from frying my PS2. It is a great diservice to belittle anyone who is trying to help out--I have had no intention of doing so. I just want to make sure everyone has all the facts straight in a short, easy to read post. Like I asked earlier, it might be beneficial to list your method in a new thread so others can find it easier--it would be in one place with an easily recognizable header.

OK...........
Lets just stop all of this......
