Ok, hello all. This is my first thread hear, and I waited to post it till I had read up on the stuff I was asking about, so here it goes....
I have the No-Solder version 5 installed in my US 3000 R PS2 that has a version 5 motherboard. I imported Tekken 4 from Japan, and I want to make a copy to play on my chipped PS2, but so far I have no luck. I have a Pioneer 104 dvr DVD-RW unit and I use Nero. I also was using Memorex DVD-R discs. After trying the game several times using the different swap methods, such as the Dave Mirra too many code trick, and the standard swap trick, I had no luck.
I now read that the DVD-R has to be silver on the bottom. Is this true? If so what type of disc will I need to be using to get it to work? I dont see why that would matter, but I hear the PS2 is very picky about that stuff.
Also, I found a few patches, such as a GI fix, and another one that uses the ppf3. Do I need to patch it to make it work? If so, how the hell do u apply it, with some sort of image, or ISO editing software? The PPF3 one only makes the image into a cd one :(
Then after all this time I read that the chip I have will not boot a game over 640 mb. Is this true? All the places that sold the chip (Lik-Sang being the place I bought it from) say that it boots DVD-R backups, but not originals, so I thought it would be fine since I had the DVD-RW unit.
Thanks for you time and help, I really appericiate it guys.

I have a US/C NTSC 30001-R v5 No-Solder, and it won't boot CD-R backups that are over 640 MB. And I've read that the type of media you use can make a difference, of course others say it's not true, but... I have successfully made DVD-R backups using Verbatim & TDK DVD-R's, no such luck with Memorex or Vivistar DVD-R's though. Same goes for CD-R backups, Verbatim CD-R's worked but I tried with TDK, Memorex, Sony, Imation, and PNY and all failed. So, make sure you use the right type of disc. Also, try using Prassi PrimoDVD found here: http://psxcopyworld.co.uk/Downloads.htm ...for doing DVD-R backups. I used that and it worked. As far as patching is concerned, you do not have to patch a straight DVD to DVD-R backup. But in the event you do need to patch a game in the future, check here for info/programs: http://www.megagames.com/ps2/ps2_utils.shtml ...and patches here: http://www.megagames.com/ps2/ps2_patches.shtml ...good luck, I hope this helped.

Will nero make a good DVD image with which to record? I got the Primo DVD from the link you provided, but I can seem to see how it makes an image on the HD.... it lets me copy form drive to drive, but I got rid of my dvd-rom, and only Have the DVD-RW and a CD-RW now. How do I use this Primo to make an image, and if that doesnt work, will Nero make good DVD images to burn with?

I cant get Primo to recognize my dvd burner. It shows it in the list, but I cant make it a recorder, only my cd-rw, but I need my dvd-rw to show up. WTF!!?? Its the Pioneer dvr 104, so shouldnt it work? It made the image fine with it, but now it wont select as a recorder.....

If you're trying to burn the image, go to file and select Global Image and then you have to choose the recorder because it will not do it for you..
Once you select the image you want to burn, double click on the left side on which ever drive is your A04..That's it!!
Or try the this site: http://www.ps2ownz.com/dvdrburn.html
Everything on Prassi Step by step with Illustration..
Damn! Once you're in the Ps2ownz site, go to DVD-R Tutorials on the left..

I appericiate all your help... but it still wont let me set my DVD-RW as my burner... it allows me to set my CD-R as one, but the options to allow the DVD-RW as one are faded out. I cant imagine what in the hell is causing that... all other programs work fine and find my DVD-RW with no problem. You can see what I mean in the pics above. Man, I hope to get this sucka working, I have had the game since it came out, and Have yet to play it.

I have uninstalled, then reinstalled both my burners, and the Primo 4 times.... it will not let me select the DVD-r as the recorder no matter what I do. What the hell is going on!!!! dammit :(
Does anyone know if Nero will work if I use the TDK DVD-R's? Because I just cant get it to allow my DVD-RW to be the burner no matter what I do.
Do I have to use the Primo to Burn the DVD-R? Nero seems to make a perfect image, just that i havent tried different DVD-R's ( I thought they would all be the same). I dont want to go out to Circut City and pay $15 for the DVD-R, then burn it and not have it work.
Once again, thanks for your help guys:D
Ok, this is what I've found. This link ( http://www.veritas.com/us/products/recordnow/drivers/ ) has something that might help. The Px Engine update provides product updates, fixes, and new CD and DVD recorder support for PrimoDVD. Might be your fix :D good luck.

Thanks man, but I tried that already, and no difference. When I update it, the screen saying that it will update the engine pops up, I click next, and .... thats it, no installing progress bar or anything, it just disappears. Is that how it installs?
