So they can't play games over 650 megs, are any of the cd based games over 650? if so which ones havent been working, I have a dvd burner so I wont need to use ripped dvds on cdr's, if someone could tell me it would be great.

before you try booting it , check out the toc size using "astarte cd copy"
if its over.... dont boot it

or check its .nfo on www.isonews.com

"No-solder chips are cheap shit and can lead to expensive problems"

The first release of the no-solder mods run power off the same line as the dvd laser making them compete for power...

This has caused one of my no-solder modded ps2's to skip and freeze during dvd-r gameplay...

My media's fine, I sent it away to have the lazer re-alligned and when quoted over thephone I was told about this problem.

Anyone else heard anything similar????

They are adding an aditional wire to my no-solder to give it its own power supply.

should get it back in a couple of days, I 'll post about the results

hope this is the end of it

The no-solder mods affect the tray eject only. It isnt a modchip, just a simple tray pusher. It has no effect on the dvd laser at all.

well now I can say that I'm a little worried about the lifespan of my ps2 when I put my no solder in, but owell, its worth it

I have been using a no-solder mod on my ps2 (US/C NTSC v5) for quite some time now and haven't had anyproblems with DVD-R. Also, as far as I know, no CD based game is over 640 MB.

well like I said, mines having a seperate power wire run to it , since my dvd laser has been known to make loud clicks while accessing dvd-r's and rips, I'm told this means that there is a drop in power going to the dvd-laser.

now i'm not a electronics whizz this is simply what i'm told by the repair centre i send that ps2 to. www.blade.cc

but that chip regardless would definatly require power to run, and if its plugged into the side of the dvd-drive during installation... "Where else would it get its power from ???????"

they have had heaps of ps2 with the same problem due to the first release no-solder chips, and this is their working fix. mine ships back Fixed and and with warrenty , in a couple of days.

I'll let u guys know if the extra wire fix's the problem.

till the i'm playing my other ps2 with neo2.2.

NO SOLDERS SUCK!

clicking is actually the laser trying to focus and not being able to. usually a sign of a dying laser unit.. or a fucked chip.

how many ppl come ta this forum stating that their system is fucked cause the no solder chips?

I would have to agree with warlock here, the nosolder mod is just a insert into the ribbon cable that allows the tray to eject without the CPU knowing it. Same principal as doing the cog/knife method. It is not a modchip, it doesnt not send any signal or code to the PS2. The only time it uses any power would be when it opens and closes the tray so i dont see how it could have any kind of a power draw on the laser or anything else. The problem with this mod was the hard tray eject messing up the alignment pin, not the laser.

alignment pin?damn knowing nothin sucks......

It is a little white pin located under the drive tray, lol. People who do the cog/knife swap method use a knife or card push it aside to eject the tray.It becomes damaged from the tray ejecting and closing so hard.

so how long does a ps2 with a no solder chip(not actually a chip) usually last?

I got my mod from lik-sang when it was first released, maybe 3 or 4 months ago. so far my system still plays great. I got 3 kids that play it maybe 2 or 3 hours a day.

atleast it sounds safe, for doing the dvdr swap, do you have to use a game or can you use a dvd movie ?

elkayps2

the swap disk for dvd-r must be an Original Game and that game must be bigger than the dvd-r game ur trying to boot.

nah....... dvd movies dont work...

Open DVDextractor

click save image then,

select the DVDmovie or PS2 DVD on the desktop from the window, next it will ask you where you want to save it,

its default is to jump to the dvd image u selected a second ago, but a DVD is read-only so, if you try and save it there you will get that "volume error"

make sure u have at least 7GB free (some DVD movies can be over 6.5) and save it there....

from here u can use, DVD extractor to mount that saved DVD Movie image and run the DVD off your hardrive with Apple DVD Player, handy for saving youself from late rental fee's lol

if the DVD Movie or Ps2 DVD image is under 4.7GB u can write it to dvd-r
by clicking on the image it will mount in Roxio Toast 5.0.2 as a "UDF Bridge DVD" all the settings are taken care off automatically :), click Record
always write at 1x speed.
