I have a solderless mod chip, and a GS2 V2 and I can't get any backups to work.... NONE.... No PSX, No PS2, Nothin!!!!! The system runs fine so I couldn't have screwed up the install (it's a solderless chip for christ's sake) What else could be wrong???

Some things to check might be did you get the right no solder mod for your version? version 5 and version 6 are very similar. Next to ask would be what kind of media and what game is giving you trouble? My solderless works great, using verbatim 74 min cdr.

you should be able to press and hold eject, the light on the reset button should change from green to orange along with the tray ejecting. It should stay open about 5 sec then close. If this works then the chip is working and you have a problem with the backup, if not then you have a bad chip....I would not think it would be a install problem. It's hard to screw up installing a no solder mod.

I got my no solder from GameGizmo.com, and the instructions that they sent didnt work.
someone from this forum gave me a known working method, and it boots fine every time.
dunno if this is what you are doing, but it works for me:
boot w. game shark, let completely load.
when done booting, simply press eject, and replace w, an orginal dvd game. (i use GTA3) close tray.
wait 30 sec.
then go to gameshark codes, pick any game, and turn off/on any codes. doesnt matter.
press start.
then 'select start game with codes'.
then it will go to the screen where it says exchange discs and press X to begin.
Press X.
IMPORTANT: it will pop up a black screen that says 'updating codes, please wait' or something like that.
as soon as you see this, press and HOLD the Eject button till tray pops out. The tray will pop out and the power led will change from green to amber. immedialty swap the orignal w. your backup.
the tray will close automatically, and the game will boot.
hope this helps.
nightstalker posted this boot method awhile back.

No!No!No! You guys have got this all wrong!Put your GS2/AR@ in then power off.wait 5 sec. Power on PS2 select start, without codes,HOLD the eject button, let tray come out then switch to CDr let it go back in then after 2 sec press X. Will SURE work!! If it doesn't put the damn CD-R in your computer and see how many megabytes it is. If it is more than 640 Mb then sorry to say that it won't boot as the chip only boots 640 Mb and bellow> :)
LET ME KNOW IF THAT HELPED !!
