Ok im a newby to backing up or copying PS2 games onto CDR, ive spent the last 4 hours going over numerous tutorials and testing out 4 different CD burning programs such as CDR-WIN, Clone CD, Nero and another one i cant remember.
My burner is an Acer CDRW 12X8X32 and the game i am trying to burn is the EA Sports Cricket 2002.
Ive d/l patches and stuff but it doesnt make a difference.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated and u can contact me directly by emailing [email protected]

Cheers All

You might try www.psxcopyworld.co.uk for CloneCD tutorial and read the valuable Q&A section.

EA games should be copied with Clone CD (using the sub-=channel settings on READ) and setting "Don't Repair sub-channel data" on BURN.

Took your advice mate and got 54% of the way into burning then this error message came up.

" Writing to CD failed, MEDIUM ERROR: NO ADDITIONAL SENSE INFORMATION (3:0x02:0xff) "

And sometimes i get this alert.

" Writing to CD failed, ILLEGAL REQUEST: LOGICAL BLOCK ADDRESS OUT OF RANGE (5:0x21:0x00) "

This is using CD Clone by the way with my Acer CD-R/RW 12x8x32 burner and using an Emtec Basf CD-R.

Please help........lol..........ive been trying for ages and ive wasted at least 7 or 8 CD's doing it.

The problem is your media. try using a better cdr, also RAW dao94 will not backup protected PSX, PS2 games. with this drive its best to use cdrwin and ppf-o-matic to patch the protected games. It must be RAW dao96 for clonecd to work correctly.

To consolidate what Dust & Warlkock have said:

1/
The Acer 1210 is not fully CloneCD compatible for the purposes of copying EA CD games. They use the subchannel area to store copy protection information.

2/
CloneCD compatibility can be checked in the "supported writers" section of www.elbe.de. You are looking for entries completely in Green for full compatibility - that is RAW DAO + 96.

3/
Subchannels: A CD data block is 2048 bytes long. The "RAW" area is 304 bytes beyond that and would be used on a CD-R for error checking (but a pressed EA Games CD won't have any errors - so the RAW area can be used for other purposes). Tghe sub-channel zone is 96 bytes beyond that and would be used for CD-Text or Digital Audio Info (but not on PS2 games); some protected PS2 games use this area for copy protection information.

4/
CloneCD is able to copy a CD 1:1 in the readable area so that the RAW +96 appears on the CD-R exactly as on the CD.

5/
You will not find it easy nor rewarding to use CDRWin to copy the EA game and then patch it to get round the fact that the RAW+96 couldn't be copied. Patching is another industry. Far better to go out and buy a Yamaha or Plextror CD-burner.
