View Full Version : SuperPower Issue...

I have DreamCatchers SuperPower, which is a great game and all, but has had some serious issues. Including a lot of CDTs that make the game unplayable. Now - I've a backup of the game, and the game itself, but it's with the former I have the problem. They put out a patch for the game, Beta V1.01 - I install the patch fine and dandy, but when I attempt to use my backup version - I get a message saying "Please Insert the correct CD-ROM" Blah Blah Blah - I'm sure you know the rest.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Does it work with the original CD? If not its the patches fault.
I figure you could play v1.0 with your backup, but did you apply any fixed .exe or removed a copy protection of some sort? If so you would probably have to do that with the patch too. If not they may have added a copy protection. Go find a fixed .exe then.

btw: whats a CDT?

I actually meant CTD, silly fingers, and that means Crash To Desktop. Yeah, it works with the original CD, and I'm afraid I don't know much about the backup - My friend does a majority of that for me (He's into learning stuff on his own that way, so I'll give him CDs to backup for me (Also so I can share a game with a friend and still be able to play it myself)). From what I've read, the patch itself is copy protected (And it is simply a zip file that when extracted, copies over a bunch of files including the game EXE - So I assume that is the file with the copy protection) so I'm not exactly sure how to deal with the exe file not accepting the CD (Backup that is)

So thats the problem. Your backup is not a 1:1 copy then and because of that the copy protection doesnt find the bits and bytes its looking for on the backup.
Result: Cant play.
Solution: Look for a fixed .exe. Take a look here (http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28164) to find one.

Ouch... Well - Oh well, not much can be done then. I've looked at those sites and couldn't find anything, but I'll most definitely continue looking once a week or so. It's not a HUGE game like Medal of Honour or Global Operations, so I doubt a fixed exe (for play with the patch) will come out any time soon.

Anyways, thanks for the reply emptyeighty! At least I know the situation now!

No problem.
But thats the problem with german games also. Nobody removes copy protections for them eighter.
Anyway, ask your friend if he can do 1:1 copies with his burner. If he doesnt know tell him to go to CD Media World (http://www.cdmediaworld.com) and CD Media World Forum (http://www.fileforums.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=2) to get information about his burner and whether it can do 1:1 copies. He should also use the latest versions of CloneCD (http://www.elby.org) and ClonyXXL (http://insomnia.covers.de/). Clony XXL finds the right CloneCD settings automatically.
Theres a lot of great stuff on these sites!

>>added afterwards:
If you have a 1:1 copy of your CD you can play with the backup.

Well - I passed on the message to him and he's going to check into it. Thanks for the info emptyeighty, perhaps with luck a No CD Crack will come out for version 1.01 of the game and I can toss it onto a disk or the CD itself. Again - Thanks.

Yeah - I actually read that in the NFO I found at isonews.com; however, I'm not sure how to deal with it. I found (On this website I might add) reference to SafeDisc, then I downloaded it off another site and used... 2.4.0.10 of SafeDisc (As that seemed to be the most recent they had) but got a random error. Then used an analyser and found out it was protected with SafeDisc 2.6.052 so I'm out of luck unless there is a version to unprotect this file.

There is no Unsafedisc newer than v2.40.10. Also r!sc the author of Unsafedisc has stopped developing it so there wont be any new versions for some time now.

people who make cracks in big groups have a thing like unsafedisk 2.5 wish i had it

emptyeighty
13-04-2002, 05:27
I think everybody in this forum wants to have Unsafedisc v2.51.xx and v2.60.xx. I think the groups should release their generic tools six months or so after they made them. That would ensure that the groups are the first to get their cracks and we would also get them. For people who whant to make a NoCD for german or not-so-popular games. But then again, this will never happen...

when many games are sd 2.6.xx they will probally release there unsafedisk 2.5.xx one

i don;t want to read thru averything, but the patch probably upgraded the protection adn that is why it doesn;t work....

emptyeighty
13-04-2002, 05:39
How do you know they will release v2.51.xx generic tools? Is there a website were you can download generic tools done by groups?

DeanI

packer

now that i see the last few posts, i want to ask whether a game has come out with sd2.61xx and what game is it and is it replicatable?

DeanI

Meaby Macrovision needs money so they made a fake version. Could be since there is no Unsafedisc anymore. They dont really have to work now.

Hmm, dug around for it myself, and couldn't find it. If anyone knows where it is, let me know...

the only thing i've heard any problems about was that 2.6 was accessing the registry to check for daemon drivers, but i thought it did that before. not sure. don juan (?) posted something about it

DeanI
14-04-2002, 16:08
so its just new blacklistings

podunkviller
14-04-2002, 18:30
daemon was already blacklisted, they are just finding better ways to blacklist it ;)

on a side note, macrovision profits in the 4th quarter last year were down. hopefully this trend will continue, and serial codes will be the only protection on future games.

Dont say that! Companies will use TAGES and Starforce then, and not even the best writer/program can copy those (yet???).

podunkviller

they wont use those, those dont read correctly on all cd-roms, and that leads to lost sales.....

Meaby they all use SecuROM then. Or LaserLok.
Or theyll improve Starforce, or whatever. Just i cant imagine having no CD protection anymore.
