View Full Version : Gold CD-RW for VCD
Hey,
I have about 20 VCDs (anime mostly) that I can only play on my computer because my Toshiba DVD player will only play (from what I've heard) Gold backed CD-RWs. I looked at the CD media list here on CD media world and it says every CD-RW is silver backed. Does anyone know what brand has a gold back to it? Thanks in advance

I've never ever seen such a thing as a gold backed CD-RW. Maybe they were around way before CD-RW technology became popular. Who knows.
For your videos, etc., stick to quality CD-R's. Verbatim/Mitsubishi, Taiyo Yuden or Kodak Ultima/Gold Ultima (if you can find them) will produce consistantly high quality results.

good...
It's not the brand that count's it what u r buying,
all CDR's r made by a handfull of companies, u can find
out who with CDRID. Of course maybe Kodak only buy
grade A1 CDR from xxxxlabs whilst WangCo CDR maybe
grade A2 from the same production line at xxxxlabs.

Actually in 1994 when I bought my first CD-Recorder for $1500 made by Pinnicle. CD-R's had either gold or silver backs. Somewhere around '95-'97 the gold CD-R's dissappeared. Though your problem I have encountered with an Aopen DVD drive the drive was no longer useful. Unless the maker of your DVD drive has a firmware update. There is no way to fix the problem.
