I am seriously thinking of chipping my ps2 so I can play this import only game. The problem is, I am not sure which chip to choose. I wanted to get a modcube, but I heard that they cant play original PS2 imports and they need to be copied first (I have no DVD copier). And I am worried about getting a weld-on chip for fear that they will make protected games like that did with the psx where even if the game is legit it wont play because your ps2 is chipped.

The game I want to get, when it comes out, is Dance Dance Revolution 6. (So in other words, an original PS2 Japaniese import on a US system)

My ps2 is a Model 30001-R V4, date code 1C.
Any suggestions on what chip I shoudl get? Or if I shoudl wait for now incase they might make a no-solder chip like that have for the V5 and V6 ps2s?

Also, last time I tried soldering a modchip to my PSX I screwed up, so theres a high chance Ill mess up my ps2 also, so anybody know any RELIABLE places I can sent it to be chipped? (Preferable places that have a website and I can mail it to them)

Thanks for your trouble.

ps2 modding is ALOT harder than psx modding, especially for origa/messiah etc.. so better send it somewhere.

the best chip available is the messiah, although I'm not sure it works on US R systems. if not, the next best solution is the origa (or its clone, the nova chip).
both play cdr, dvd-r and original imports, as well as psx cdr, messiah without, origa with a single swap (with GS2/region X).

Huh? But I thaught that the Messiah wasnt compatible with 30001R V4 ps2s that have a date code of 1C? I read it at some mod site, forgot where. Are you sure that the chip is compatible with my ps2? Also, is there any removable chip that Is compatible with oroginal imports? The main reason I want a chip that is removable is because if I run into a game that they put code on to block modchips, like they did with the psx on a few games. I wouldent be able to play the game even if its a legal copy just becasue I have a chip installed.

as I said, I am not sure if it is compatible.
which is why I also mentioned the alternative, the origa.

there's only one external/removable chip, and it's total crap. you could however add a switch on the power wire of a mod to disable it.

As stated by Arakon, Origa or the new nova chips are your best solution. Stay away from usb mods as well as neo chips. Both are known to cause laser damage.
