View Full Version : dvd(not the cdr) calibration facts and (ohm ) data.
I succesfully calibrated my cdr part of my ps 2 laser. Now i want to ajust my dvd part (potmeter),because my dvd 's do not boot up(not even real original dvd movies, only real ps 2 dvd). I got a pal v4 neo4 ps2 ,after holding the high tocfile real game, the laser ticks like aclock. After 14 secs the gold disc appears from the memory card on the screen. Then i put the dvdr in (who work fine at first, but since a week or two.......nada!!
THe memorycard screen is again visible for two seconds and then i get the message put in a playstation game or disc read error.
Does someone know what to do.   :( :(
my guess would be that your dvd laser is one step from dieing.
did you have a neo 2.2 in there before?
has the dvd pot been messed with before? check it with an ohmmeter, it shouldn't be lower than 950 or so. if it is, then it's most likely burnt out.
you can also try cleaning the lense with a cleaning cd, but from the sounds of it, your laser is going bye bye.
 :o
Thank you for your reply. Here are tha hardware facts; It's a original dutch(european)pal 30004.I bought it 4 months ago. The neo 4 was installed by a pro(i wanted a messiah but you know what sony did to channeltech,). Or is that should be a pro, because when i opened my ps2 i saw that my powersupply was glued together (a small edge had broken off & was glued and soldered back together) Not nice to say nothing or better still replace the damn powersupply!!!!
So now my cdr boot up fine & the dvdr wont do a thing since a week or 2. After going thru the procidure of swapping the memory card screen without the gold disc next to it flash up the tv screen for about a second or so.Then i get the message disc read error or not a psx or ps2 disc.Has some one heard or had this before and what can i do............By the way arakon, what is the ideal ohmreading for the dvd potmeteryou say 950 is the lowest but is there a max reading. What is the ideal dvd potmeter ohmreading for my ps2???????
Thanx to you people for helping frustrated gamer(I WANT TO FINISH FFX)

I think you should throw away your neo4 because is a bullshit i own a neo4 also and my ps2 30004 (PAL) donīt play playstation1 games anymore so i throw it away and in the future i will use a messiah or a USB mod.... is the best way.......... think about it before your ps2 donīt work anymore.....
Greets @ruantec
what exactly works?
DVD-R, Movie DVD, PS2 original DVD?
cdr work, original demo dvd work, most of the original moviedvd but not my dvdr. When i try the dvdr i hear a clicking noise just like before i calibrated the cd potmeter on the lens of the ps 2. I need the ecxact ohmreading for the dvd calibration Or is there a other reason that he does this .The machine is 4 months old.
Thanx for any reaction from all you guys.:p :)

messiah r available email me or charlie_ps2
have u tried putting a cd /dvd cleaning disk through it
dvd reading much more sensitive then cdr
my v4 stopped reading dvdr (messiah)
after cleaning worked fine since
Sorry to ask this but why does no one like the Neo 4 ?
I had a neo 4 in my PS2 and it worked fine untill i altered the cd pot and blu the dvd laser ,
the reason i alterd it was to see if i could not get splashdown to work with the neo 4 .
in the end it turned out that the printed label i put on the cd was the problem and when i took the label off it worked fine,
so it was my own fault.
lesson is don't adjust your laser as 90% of the time it could be a bad disk or the game was copied wrong
Thanks
Steve

the main reason why i hate neo4 is because i pay a lot of money for it and it doesnīt work fine......... two weeks ago i have a USB chip and everything was fine but as i get the neo4 is just a nightmare...... my playstation2 doesnīt work fine anymore....... i canīt play playstation1 games anymore even orginals!!!! no backups nothing....... only ps2 games.............. and thatīs the reason why i haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttteeeeeeee it.

Arakon has given you good advice. The range is 950 - 1100 ohms. Dust gave you good advice too - clean the laser. A new laser costs about 75 euros. And you can read my post on Laser Azimuth Adjustment from somewhere last month. I'm going to do another post soon on Laser Parallax Adjustment.
After all that - when DVD-R works with that ridiculous high TOC method, rip out the NEO4 and take a Messiah unless you board is loused up by that cut track.
NEO4 is a crap solution.
thaNX FOR YOUR REPLY PS2. i READ YOUR POST I WILL SURELY TRY THAT IF EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS.i TAKE IT THAT IT IS 950-TO A THOUSEND OHMS i.i TRIED 1050 THE ONLY THING WAS THAT IT TICKED LESS VIOLENTLY. i WILL CLEAN THE LENS TOMORROW.
iS THERE NOBODY OUTTHERE HWHO EVEN HEARD ABOUT THIS THING THAT IS HAPPEND TO A 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MONTHS OLD PS2!!!!!!!!!!!I AM OPEN TO SURGESTIONS.
THANXEAT YOUR PIE BEFORE YOU DIE!!!!!!!!

That should read 1100 ohms.
As to your 4 months old laser, that's what makes me think it needs cleaning. Otherwise you've been doing it proud on DVD movies!
if only DVD-R fail to read, use a different brand. not all of them work. try verbatim or apple blanks, they seem to work best.
Shit happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The dvdr have been booting up till two weeks ago.Now none of them boot up . When i have held the tray button till the gold disc appears , i put in the dvdr, you hear the the laser ticks and searches. After 8 secs or so the memorycard screen without the disc flash up for a second and instandly fades away. After that the message on the screen reads put in a original ps game. When i hold the tray button you hear the laser tick. Thje ohm reading is 1050 ohm. . After ajusting the dvdpot it won't even boot up demodvd. The reading of the dvdpot was before adjusting it the first time(when this all started)about 500 ohm. All the while the cdr are booting up like never before. They all work the first time (650 ohm).My manufactures reading the first time was about 400 ohm.
HAS NO ONE HEARD OF THIS BEFORE,IT CANNOT BE THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPEND(I THINK)TOCH MOOI KLOTE!!translation see top side^
By the way it is: fujifilm 4.7gb dvd-r for data that is used for media, that seems a decent enuf brand to me or is it??????

hmm as i said i had 1 month old v4r it would only read pioneer or apple dvdr i had laser adjusted cleaned nothing worked
those settings are WAY too low. I doubt they were standard. at 500 ohm, the DVD laser will fry in less than 2 weeks for sure. same with the cd laser. sounds like it already got damaged by the low setting.
pop it in , pop it out!
So the best course of action is ,rip the damn mod out,but the cdr work better than ever before so how can my laser have givin' uphis good work. Or buy a new one with the infamous MESSIAH inside it innerworkings.I wanted that all along but Sony got in the way of my buying one, because of the shit at chan tech, so i bought one of the last stock at that moment of the neo 4.
Look,I WANT TO PLAY; CDR.DVDR & dvd movies with a ps2 in the easyest way & cheapest( it has cost my enuff: ps2 4 months old(350 euro) & neo 4 mod with instal (200 euro))I want my kids to play with it to with out having to get a degree in ps 2 mod swapping science.
I can not put a messiah i this one because of cut track and capasitator(sorry i"m dutch so don't mind the spelling) removal.
