Hi everyone,

i know that there might be some ppl who are still looking for a gamepatch.

however check the site i posted and look for the 1.2(or geforce) patch. there is one very important thing to do, which costed me almost 2 hours till i figured it out.

when you copy the 1.2ver exe from cd 2, remember to REMOVE THE READ-ONLY from the exe, otherwise the gamefix wont work. Last but not least copy every datax.pak and every datax to your game dir; copy field2.fs from the last cd to your data dir, and every thing else should work from there.

Okay, I found that in my case, the game installed to "*:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\".

The crack/nocd/patch has some trouble with that directory, so I moved the file ff8.exe and the crack/nocd/patch to the root of the drive/partition, and opened a command-prompt, and ran the crack, and it worked perfectly.

So, if you keep getting a "file is in use/cannot access file/whatever error message when you try to "fix" your exe, then you should try moving it into a more simple location to patch the file, then just copy/move it back.

It works perfectly for me, and I'm on xp sp2 with a geforce 2 mx, so I anticipated an uphill battle.

Needless to say, it worked out better than I thought it would.

The only rpoblem I'm having now is the fact that there is no volume control for the annoying in-game music.

The music is good, but I don't want music, and it can't be disabled, and the volume is permenently set at 100%.

I'm thinking of putting some zero'ed mp3s in place of the real music.

I think it's the "," in the directory name, why the patch has trouble with it.

- check the dirsize of FF8 [1,77GB]

- run the crack

i did everything, my ff8 folder size is 1.77 file so its suppose to be ok but when i apply the patch it say:the size of selected of the file you selected doesnt match.You are about to patch the wrong file continy anyway?.

i use the inferno fix, its the one that has a big InF with the flaming background... the trick is, if you have the game copied to your hdd like they tell you to, or if you have a backup or illegal copy or whatever, all you have to do is update the game first... the version all you guys probably have is just plain old version 1... first, you have to update the ff8.exe by downloading the patch... i would recommend http://www.filefront.com, thats what i use for most of my gaming needs...

don't download the first patch, download v1.2... if you have a geforce card, which you probably do, download that one, and make sure its the US version of the patch... if you don'tk now what video card you have, then i'm not even gonna bother helping you, and don't try e-mailing me...

after you have downloaded the patch, you can leave it there and patch it with the InF fix or you can copy the patch into your ff8 folder and do it there, doesn't really matter... it'll say that the game isn't in the right format, blah blah blah, but just override it, cause it'll still work even though it says it shouldn't... the CRC is just a few bits off, cause i checked it myself... after that, you should be pretty much done... don't forget to read the info file that coems with the patch that you download off of filefront, cause theres some other files that you need to copy into the directory, or it won't work...

Errr that is part of the Windows XP boot system, from when you start up your PC it has nothing to do with the game or the command line.

Goto START > RUN > cmd and press enter

But when you use the no-cd from this site, you have to copy the CDs into serperate folders in the main game folder named CD1, CD2 etc

Then edit a file, forgot which one, and change the CD path to the path of your game folder.

Or was it the registry?

Sorry to bring this up again. Im a big fan of FF8, and I just downloaded the Iso file again with Bitlord. I got the crack mentioned in this thread as well, but I cant understand the instructions for it. All I understand is that i have to copy the complete CDs to my HDD. But where and how to change the CD IDS??? I didnt get that :p Very much thanks for help. To those asking about autoexec.nt, this has nothing whatsoever to do with the WinXP boot system. Rather, it is a file that contains various parameters for the Windoze XP DOS emulator. (It is very similar to the autoexec.bat used in previous versions of Windoze). To fix the error, open up C:\windows\repair, and copy autoexec.nt to C:\windows\system32, overwriting if necessary. Problem with this is that it doesn't solve the underlying issue (Which I don't understand :p ), and the file needs to be re-copied at every boot.

after a long and bloody battle i've managed to gather enough little tricks around the net to allow me to play my copy of FF8 with all the discs on a single DVD (rather than have it all on my hdd).
if u can get it to install but can't get it to recognise where the 1st disc is i think i have a way that doesn't require ANY patches.

i've used alcohol 120 and daemon tools to mount my bin/cue. files that i made of my originals

so after installing exit and do a search for 'regedit'. open it up and expand 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE', then 'SOFTWARE', find the folder for FF8 and then the file within called 'DataDrive'
double click it and in the next window change the 'Value data' to the initial where alcohol or daemon tools will mount the FF8 cd 1 image.
close the windows, mount the image of disc 1 and run the game.
when u need to change disc just save, exit and mount the next cd image in the same drive. simple as that.

after this i haven't had a single problem yet, i've got full sound, graphics and movies.

As fas I m concerned there are no working no cd patches or cracks for ff8.
You can however play from images stored on your HardDisk .Just install from the install cd with daemon tools...
Then mount the first play disc and go to command: type regedit.
Look in HKey Local Machine for final fantasty 8 and then select the data drive in the right tab. Change it to the drive letter of your virtual drive and off you go ;) enjoy:D

And about the disc two game crash the nvideapatch should fix that ;)

I just got a back up copy from a friend because i playstion copy was damaged and the seconed disk did not work.

But any ways my problem is that he gave them to me a iso and when i run them in a vertual cd drive it lets me install the game but as soon i go to play the game and i ases to in sert cd one it keeps saying wrong disk. I have one strange DVD Pal version, and i have the same truble when it ask for the cd2..

It was the "Ff8nocd.exe" and the message it was something like this "You can't delete this file, because is in use for other program. Close that program first." but a friend told me that i need turn off the pc for 5 or more minutes. Then I try to delete again that file and it works. :)

Still I have that Strange DVD Pal Version :rolleyes: , and the game runs fine but when the game ask for the disc number 2, and say something like: "Incorrect disc, please insert the correct disc 2". :(

Somebody could tell me the correct form of using the silvio's crack?

The DVD that I have is surely a conversion of the version of CD that was passed to DVD, fair as they make it in CD-2-DVD.COM

It is a one DVD which installs the complete game, and you can even play without problems, but only until he (the game) requests you for the disk 2, later in spite of having the DVD inserted in the correct unit, he even tells me that it is an incorrect disk that i must insert the correct disk.

I think that the files "identity-file" that requests the silvio crack, they can be in some place of that DVD, but i don't know what are the correct name or extentions of these files or if they are really in that DVD. perhaps it was a bad conversion or incomplete....

I believe to have identified some files inside that DVD, corresponding to what they would be the disks: disk1, disk2, disk3, disk4 (all without extencion) and disc1.pak, disc2.pak, disc3.pak and disc4spa.pak

:confused: Some suggestion, different to get the version in compact disks? Je, je. :D

First let me tell to every one, that in the most of the cases DON'T USE A CRACK "NO-CD" ON THE FFVIII. because you don't need it!

In many forums, they say that you only need to change

in te registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESquare Soft, IncFINAL FANTASY VIII1.00

Change the Data drive (that usually is c: or d:) to the correct drive that you insert the disc of FFVIII (wathever of number of disc) well i try it in this way but at the first time it doesn't work for me because it is incomplete or it doesn't have some details that are important!!!!.... But then after read in many forums, and search for my old disc's of FFVIII(english version but the disc 3 is damaged :mad: ) and I try it in this way:

What you need? well of course the Five Disc of FFVIII or all the files of the 5 Disc (It doesn't care if you have the files in a DVD like me) and the patchs like the 1.2v (this patch fix many bugs).

1.- Intall the FFVIII with the intall disc or whatever you have.
2.- Now Intall the patch if you want (rememeber that it fix many bugs like the video for nvidia users)
3.- Run FFVIII, but don't start to play... just Go to the screen where it says: "New game" or "Continue". and now in you're keyboard push "CTRL + ALT + SUPR" (the three at the same time). It activates the windows task manager" (yeah i know that many guys just use the ALT + TAB, but for some reason it don't work for me in that way).
4.- Close the manager of windows, go to START button (of windows), then to RUN and type: "regedit" the pres enter.
5.- Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Square Soft Inc, FINAL FANTASY VIII, 1.00
6.- Now check the "data drive" reg It should be represent by a leter of you drive, check if that leter is the correct drive where you insert your FF8_CD1 or wathever of number of disc.
--- If the letter is the same of your drive where you insert the disc, just close the manager, return to the FF8 and try play, and if you can play you're lucky and you didn't read this Text.
--- If the letter is diferent of the one that has your unit (Where you insert your disc of FF8), then replace the letter with the correct, just press right click on "Data drive" then left click in the firts option and change that letter for the correct letter of you drive where you insert the disc of FF8. then click ok, close the regedit and return to the Game. Try to play. If you can play, you did it! (For many guys this way works, but not for me, i need it to do more steps yeah the next steps) If not works, well go to the next step.

7.- (THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THAT I MAKE WORK THIS GAME IN MY PC WTHOUT THE ORIGINAL DISC DAMM THAT THIRD DISC...) Well now we need two tools for made runs the game, I hate the words "INCORRECT DISC". We need a Image record like nero burning or other program that makes ISO'S IMAGES, and the other tool is an Image emulation program like daemon tools or alcohol.

++First we are going to made a folder where we are going to copy all the files of the Disc that we want to play (like the disc 1) the files are: disc1.pak , Disk1 , field.fi , field.fl ,and field.fs
++ Then we are going to create an image. I don't know if we need to create a image with the same label of the original disc, I suggest you that you make it with the original label. For Pal version i used this one "FF8_CD2_PC_SPANISH" OR "FF8_CD2_PC_ENGLISH" then Burn that image.
++ Already with the image, Run your daemon tools or alcohol and Mount that image, and check what letter have the drive where you mount the image.
++ Repeat the steps of the number 3 at the 6, But in the 6 step you must to change the letter that apperars for the corretc where the image was mount.
++ Now click ok, close the regedit of windows, return to the game and try to play.

This way works for me, I hope i can hel to all the people that have the same problem than me. :cool:

1. IF your crackable FF8.EXE file was READ-ONLY the crack DIDN'T WORKS
at all (ofcourse)
2. DOWNLOAD and read the instructions! MORE NOTICE from me that:
WHEN THE GAME ASKS for the CD2 then DELETE DISK1 file and COPY DISK2
file (simple press ALT+TAB in the game and make this changes and GO BACK
to the game again with ALT+TAB). VERY simple to make a PATH like \DISKY
on your HDD's game dir and copy the file DISK1....5 etc. to the \DISKY dir.
WHEN the game ask the disk SIMPLE DELETE DISK1 etc. and COPY the
right one from \DISKY. IF ASKS DISK3 then copy DISK3 file from \DISKY TO
YOUR game dir.
The game watch this DISKx file and YOU DO HAVE ONLY the correct file ON
your game dir. DO NOT PUT all the files, ONLY WHAT ASKS the game.

MAYBE YOU HAVE A PERFECT NOCD/Reroutes crack for this game, BUT I

If anyone is interested I made my own NoCD for this, if anyone wants to try it, I upped it to Rapidshare:

I found some save games saved on discs 1 to 4 and flicked through a few and the saves loaded when all the DISCx.PAK data files from the 4 discs were copied to my HDD, plus the last battle loaded OK too!

I'm using the English version, not sure if it will work on other versions!

I run the setup from install disk and the setup wizard show up i follow the steps and finally the setup completed successfully i run the game runs perfect?>but when the time for the first cd came i put it on dvd-record drive and i click the w,c or x keyboard button then following message appears

I burn the files from the folder Disc 1 into a cd-rw 700
I insert the disc 1 when ask for the first disc i click multiple/different times the w,x,c keyboard buttons but i have the same result wrong disc caution !

the fault is the cd-rw?? i need a regular cd??

i pass all of them but i don't pass one

to see the FF8Config window i must reboot my machine because the first time i click on the icon the black screen that appers normally for a few seconds every time i click on the icon to see the settings this time stay permanently untill i reboot my machine this problem appear after overwrited the files in Final Fantasy viii directory in program files from the files in "FF8SqeaNVPatch" zip folder i have read the game for those who has nVidia cards there will be a textel problem i also know there two pathes but the one, those for non nVidia users fixes all the problems in the game and the other fixes only a textel problem. After your help, can you tell me what i must to do with patches so in the future will be no necessary to face performance problems and crashes?

I was uploaded patch to GameCopyWorld but this patch ended there (http://fileforums.com/$rd_gf.php?p=ff8.htm) :confused:

Download nocd from http://fileforums.com/$rd_gf.php?p=ff8.htm named "Final Fantasy 8 v1.2/GeForce [15 KB] NoCD Patch" or "Final Fantasy 8 v1.2 [15 KB] NoCD Patch". Or maybe better solution is to make image files of CD1,CD2,CD3,CD4 and in your virtual menager put them on the hotkeys.
For example put CD1 image file on F5 hotkey, CD2 on F6, CD3 on F7, CD4 on F8. I tested this on Alcohol 120%.

ok, to all people... This is how to play the game using the CRACK/NO CD/Fixed EXE...

Make an installation of the game...
Patch the game
Copy the crack file

IF YOU WANT TO JUST PLAY THE GAME IN THE HARD DRIVE, U NEED TO COPY CD2/CD3/CD4/CD5 TO THE GAME DIRECTORY....

YOU CANNOT COPY CD3 WHILE CD2 IS IN THE GAME DIRECTORY... AS IT HAS THE SAME GAME NAME FILE.

I Suggest making an image and just mount it.

This thread is a very very old one :D geez... people still play this game... :) i havent even finished this one... as I moved on to FFX in PS2 :)

Hiya all,

I had to get a back up of FF8 when my disc 2 got a nasty scratch... But had loads of trouble finding a no CD patch for it.

There is an easier way that I will be willing to e-mail to whoever needs it... Just send me a PM and your e-mail addy and I wil send you teh instructions.

The good news here is there is no programs involved either, so no chance of any virus threats that I have found from many of the Patches available online... Only GCW ever have clean Patches!

Hi a few days ago, my game comes to me final fantasy 8, great I loved it on ps1 i don´t play it to the end...

now i have it but..

After i get it from ebay, i want to install it. So i put my the Install CD in my machine ok nothing happens, go in to the folder click on setup, nothing happens. A look in my taskmanager tells me nothing happens, no cpu running for the setup. Ok lets search for the reasons... nothing found some threads in other communitys but i found nothing what can help me. So i try myself, i installed it on a friends laptop and it works without problems you can play.... Ok i catch the install folder of the program also the reg in the windows registry, and try to let it run to my pc.

Something happend. After i correct the path of the game in the reg.

Eidos Brand played i think it works... the credits on the beginning, ok let´s rock i thought, than i want to start a new game, insert CD1 i put it in and than...

nothing happens...

the game bring me back to the desktop. hmm ok may registry problems, i changed the dataDrive to my cd drive. nothing happends. I also tried the nv-patch, the non nv-patch. the no-cds, i also try to make an image of my cd´s an try the stuff that you guys tell and mount it, nothing works. I change the settings for my graphic card (antialiasing....) I also check the settings for the game with different settings nothing helped. I tried to install directx 6.1 the CD has no scratches all is nice. But...

nothing happens...

The data from my friends laptop:

nvidia card

my data:
windows xp servicepack2

is the Problem maybee xpsp2 / xpsp1 ?

Seems like either.

1. You have a virii blocking some executables from working.

2. The auto-insert notification of your CD-rom is not on.

3. Or the CD-Rom is screwed.

Have you tried the various compatability modes of XP on the SETUP.EXE to see if that helps it install?

the compatability modes i have tryed also but i don´t forget it to write, i set the mode of my cd-rom to pio an dma, nothing works ich copy the hole folder of the game to my machine and try to run setup nothing happend. this exe runs with the win32- launcher maybe this will help to find my problem.

Not sure whats wrong? I've just reinstalled my copy on XP with SP2 and all critical Windows Updates applied and the install went fine.

Only problem is most newer Nvidia cards do not support 8-bit Paletted Textures anymore so you have big black blocks all over the screen when playing the game.

Nvidia are stupid fucks honestly!!

All other CD´s works fine. The main Problem is i can´t install the game of my machine, on the friends laptop it works he can install it. The only way to get the game on my system is the way that i describe on the top entry. It will work but if i try to start the game and insert cd 1 it brokes up and throw mw to my desktop. :confused:

You have to chenge the settings for the Game from 3d hardware... to system... maybe the problem will fix, or you can install the patch but maybee it doesnt work. at the moment i´m a pro with the problems from the game ;)

I know running the game in SOFTWARE mode solves the black box problem, but running in D3D mode allows you to set Anti-Aliasing and other settings to make the game look better but the black boxes make it pointless. I'm already using the GeForce 1.2 patch and it does not solve the problem.

There appears to be NO SOLUTION to this problem of running FF8 in D3D mode with any Nvidia card above a 6600 as these cards simply don't support 8-bit Paletted Textures.
