OK, here's the skinny.

I have tried multiple times, obviously unsuccessfully, to backup GTA3 with both Primo and Nero to a Pioneer A-03. Both continously fail to read the original to the drive, regardless of what I've tried.

At first, I thought I had a defective disc and got it replaced. However, my new one is fine (no major scratches, etc) and it still will not read. Also, any attempts to turn off error detection within either piece of software have been for naught.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What Firmware is your A03, it should be 1.68 for reliable back-ups.

Than i think your original sucks. I`ve made a backup NP.

FW is 1.68.

schumy2001: is your backup from a PAL or NTSC master? Mine is NTSC U/C (don't know why that'd make any difference but at this point in the game I'm looking at everything).

GTA3 is a dodgy game to copy, due to the disc being pressed.
You will find that the PS2 has probs reading the dvd-r of the game and freezes.

What mod chip are you using in the PS2.

I made a DVD-R and it didn't work with my Neo 2.2
But worked fine in my mates Elvis

I have an M-clone (Phoenix).

It copies just fine until about 3.8G then returns the same error (on both masters). With I had it with me because I would post it.

I'm at a loss. This makes the 2nd game that's done something odd like this (TMB being the only other: it locks on boot).

Oh well. Thanks anyway.

try using the latest version of prassi and try using the latest version of nero. My backup was PAL

I had this problem copying MGS2 using Prassi. It worked straight away by using Nero instead.

Thanks for all the help gang. , but none of it has helped yet. I borrowed another GTA3 from a friend and it too will not read (in all fairness though, it was pretty scratched).

dezzzza9995: thanks for the advise, but it failed using Nero too.

I should have my hands on a 4th pristine original early next week. Here's hoping.

Thanks much

Is your PX engine up to date? You can download the patch from Prassi Europe.

There's a short cut to it under the help section in Prassi PrimoDVD.

Hope this helps, I think it's something to do with partition sizes under Windows, and as your copy seems to fail at 3.8GB!!!!
