View Full Version : For Charlie and / or Dust to DUST
Hello Charlie,
I recived my Messiah and i want to install it,i alredy open the PS2 and i have infront of me the board,It's a V4( I think ) Pal SCPH 30004 , but i have few question about the installation :
(I took the diagrams from www.china-messiha.com )
1. About the Controller wires,in one place it says to connect the wires direct to the chip and the other to the alternative pointes.
Where do i need to connect them ( A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I )?
2. How can i know the defrant between Bios with gap or not,i think i have with Gap.
3.Just to anderstand the connaction area on the board,in the side of the Main board there are 4 chips.the first is the BIOS pointes M,N,O,P,Q,R,T,U,V,W ,the second is not conserned use, and between the third and the forth we have the connect points for the controller ( few of them on the forth chip).
About the RESET,GND,3.3 volt and scex are in the same side of the Controller and the Bios but behind the big all where the flat cable is.i know its sound strange how i describe it but i think you will understand, or hope.
Please tell me if i correct with the description about the position of the conection on the board.
4. About the solder points on the Messiah for V4,how many do i need to solder,if i understand corect, it's three.
5.If the connection of the wires are good, will i have any problems with the operation?
You may send me back the answer to my email erez_gr**********com
Thank you very much

First, may I say that you should take it slowly and carefully. I saw your post asking for an installer and I'm sorry that nobody has come forward. Second, I assume you've followed the kit list for soldering in the install guide that I supplied. Anyway, to your questions.
1. About the Controller wires,in one place it says to connect the wires direct to the chip and the other to the alternative pointes.
Where do i need to connect them ( A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I )?
ANSWER: I earnestly recommend that you connect them directly to the chip. The vias (the alternate points) are deadly if you accidentally overheat one and it can zero the board if it sinks in. So take a razor blad and put it between the leg you are working on and its neighbour. Work from the razor side so that there is no bridge to the other side. If you use two razor blades, you might have a lighting problem!
2. How can i know the defrant between Bios with gap or not,i think i have with Gap.
ANSWER: The BIOS chip located as per the diagram will have 44 pins, 22 each side and a gap half way down.
3.Just to anderstand the connection area on the board, in the side of the Main board there are 4 chips.the first is the BIOS pointes M,N,O,P,Q,R,T,U,V,W ,the second is not conserned use, and between the third and the forth we have the connect points for the controller ( few of them on the forth chip).

ANSWER: I have to duck this question. I have never seen a v4 board in this way, only v5 and v3 (which I have documented). v4 will come! But my installer tells me that it is unambiguous from the diagrams as to chip location.
4. About the solder points on the Messiah for V4,how many do i need to solder,if i understand corect, it's three.
ANSWER: I'm not sure I understood you. There are 23 solder points on the Messiah as per the schematic.
5.If the connection of the wires are good, will i have any problems with the operation?
ANSWER: If you had a previous modchip, or your lens is dirty, i.e. if the laser is not in good condition, then DVD-Rs might not play. First clean the lens if this happens. Then you would have to recalibrate the laser by turning the DVD pot up by about/no more than 10%. There is a tutorial on www. infofree.org. In my opinion (all my opinions are at your risk), there is a 90% chance that if your PS2 has not been abused, has not played DVD movies all its life and the laser hasn't been stressed, then DVD-R should work. You will have no other problems.
Best wishes
About question 4,what i meant is that not how many wires do i need to solder to the messiah,i meant how many soldering inside the messiah i need to do,it says to do it before starting the wire soldering to the board.

Right - the answer is 4 and my installation guide shows them clearly. These are Bridges (or Straps is another term).

hmm
question 1 normal or alternatives
qoute taken from chia messiah site
When wiring to V4 consoles, you should make all connections to the CD / DVD Controller (connections A to I) to solder points and NOT to the chip itself. Run the following connections to their solder points on top of the motherboard: A, B, C, H and I, and the following connections underneath to the 'alternative' locations by routing through holes in the motherboard: D,E,F and G.
i dont know if any one remembers but my second elvis clone that charlie got me(elvis)
i tried getting it fitted by pro (v4r) at a top import company they couldnt get it to boot
in end diff installer eventually got it to work by connecting above points as it says here
but as charlie says much care is needed not to overheat them
the reason they advise not connecting to controller legs is many people bridge them (razor blades should stop this)
but also it been known to cause the controller to crash even if connections r good

What Dust is wisely advising is that you do not take the china-messiah advice about using the v4 alternative soldering points. These vias are NOT solder points; they are connectors between and into layers of the motherboard. If you overheat one of those the board is totally ruined.
So solder to the controller legs and use a razor blade to stop the adjacent leg from being splatted or bridged.
O.K
Thank you for helping me with the installation,i think i will connect the wires direct to the chip and not to the alternative points,i will be very careful not to damage the other chip leges.
I think i find somone who know the job,i will do it with him to see how good he is.
I will back to you with good or bad results as soos as i start doing the job.
Thank you
