Just wondering how many others have this problem. I put tape on some of my cdrs to write stuff, and to my surprise, the labels(and thus the writing surface) quite easily peel off. This happened to my memorex 16x cdrs and 1-4x cdrws. Except for this latest snag, i really luv the memorex cds. Nice white surface with lines to easily write stuff on, and of course, burning at high speeds has been nearly bulletproof. Anyone have suggestions to another cdr with the same quality, and easily written on label, but with better label sticking quality?

Here are some suggestions:

* Buy CD-R's/CD-RW's with a WHITE MATTE or SILVER MATTE surface, or discs with PRINTABLE surfaces.

* Buy a CD labeller.

* Don't write on the discs at all, and use the inserts which came with the jewel case, if that's how you bought the discs.

Hope that helps,

Personally I can vouch for the STOMPER branded labeller. I find the paper labels seem a little prone to peeling, but the glossy ones are the mutt's nuts and very hard wearing... I dropped one of the larger double CD jewel cases corner on to the top of a CD with one of those labels on it and the label was nicely dented but the actual top of the CD survived, and we all know how fragile they can be.

A quick word of advice if you have a high speed CD ROM drive... if you must label a CD, only use labels that cover the whole surface. When you say "tape" I assume you mean sticky tape / sellotape / duct or Gaffer tape (:D ) and that could throw the balance of the disc. A CD becomes a bit like a gyroscope at high speeds from the point of view of the CD reader's hub, and if the balance isn't right you might start getting vibrations and increase the wear and tear on your hardware.

Plus if the tape comes off in the drive you're probably stuffed.

Garry.
