Hi all

Just joined and have been checking out the best way to backup games to run on my v5 PS2.

I want to do as little soldering as possible and have not got a DVD burner, but am quite happy with just playing CDR PS1/PS2 games for now.

I've bought an Action Replay v2.2 to use in conjuction with the S Key box or No Solder Mod (the one that goes in the expansion slot) - but can't seem to find out which one works best.

The no solder one is much more convenient but there seems some confusion as to whether it will play all PS1 backups. Do they both use the same 'swap' methods, as the S Key has a switch is this more practical for switching to 'non-backup' PS2 mode. Will one require more patches? Will they both work with AR v2.2?

Sorry for all the questions, but I expect other people are trying to make the same choice as me.

Also, to play PS1 backups to I need a PS1 Action Replay CD or do I just use the PS2 one i've got.

I hope somebody can help me!

Thanks, in advance, for your help. Really appreciate it!

Brad

So the No Solder Mod is definately the better buy then?

How does the No Solder one, in operation & performance, compare to the normal solder modchips? Are there any benefits to taking the rick of soldering?

Cheers

Nothing compares to a Messiah, After that i would say Origa-chip then neo2.5. (neo4 sux) these mods are capable of handling cd-r, dvd-r and dvd rips no problem. The R-mod works well for cd-r and dvd-r backups but have problems with dvd rips with hi TOC(anything over 640mb). As long as you dont have to depend on ripping dvd games the R-mod is a good choice. If you are depending on ripping you may want to go with Origa or messiah.
