I have the LG GCE-8160B, firmware 1.02. (is it worth it to flash it to 2.01?)

I have read many posts here about enabling or not amplify weak sectors in clone CD.

So, to backup SD 2 and 2.51 games should I enable or disable the feature?

Another question: can I make a test burn with a CD-RW? Will it duplicate the protection or do I have to use CD-Rs?

Thanks guys.

Update: Just burned a CD-RW with that SD 2.51 test file. Tested with 2 CD-ROMs (Creative 52x and Sony 52x), and my other burner (Plextor 12/10/32TA), all of them copied the file (test.efm)to my hard drive, no errors. I feel confident now! :D

For SD2 - if your burner isn't capable of correct EFM coding then use AWS.

For SD2.51 - don't use AWS as it hasn't been updated to cope with 2.51 yet. Instead patch the image with the modified Betablocker - with a slow read to image file and a slow write.

Sorry - haven't had time to check to see if your drive is capable of SD2 or not. ;)

Regarding firmware 2.01, what are the improvements/fixes? It seems LG doesn't like to give that information, since there is nothing on their site.

Yes. Use Hide CDR Media option if You want to play from recorder.

I haven't seen this option... what does it do exactly?

Thanks for the help.

it should have a history txt file or something telling you the features that were modified...
