I am looking to purchase my first mod chip for my kids PS 2 V4.
I found someone local in PA. who will install Neo 2.2. Chip and all for $50.
My question is this chip good enough to play cdr backups and dvd backups, dvd rips, and games from outside the US?
I am told I will need Gameshark 2 and it will be a swap method.
Any downside, Any better. All input appreciated.

It will do the things you say (but not import originals). The downside is that you may not be able to obtain Gameshark2/1.9x which is needed for EA games and DVD-Rs. GS2/2.x won't work on the v4 for DVD-Rs.

Thank you for your post
Please help me to understand a few things
Will the neo 2.2 work with import back ups?
Is that version of Gameshark out dated and how can you tell what version you are buying?
Based on your experience what mod chip would you suggest that would play import original and dvd backups on a version 4 machine. Is it something that I can install?
Thanks

ANSWER: Yes

ANSWER: You need the outdated version to play with NEO2.2 on v4. The box says 6000 codes rather than 13000 codes

ANSWER: OrigaChip will do it all properly and simply. If you are a soldering whizzo you can install. 01mm tip and 33 or 38 swg wire, a pair of razor blades, 8x magnifying glass.
Thanks
