I have copied a DVD using a Pioneer A03. The dvd back up will only work in the pioneer drive. The playstation will not recognise the disk. Also it will not read in my DVD-ROM drive either?
What am I doing wrong? Is it the way the disk was burned?

Pioneer A03 firmware should be 1.65 or 1.68 to deliver reliable results.

Now to business.
I've copied DVD-R copies to DVD-R many times and they all work perfectly in the PS2.
You didn't mention if they were DVD Movies or games. Movies need Nero 5.5.6.4 or later to be copied. haven't done it yet so can't advise further.
What are your symptoms?

It's games I'm trying to boot. Is there a special way to copy them? PS2 just doesn't recognise the format of the disk.

Ok, now I've upgraded Firmware of the Pioneer drive to version 1.68. Also upgraded Nero copy program to version 5.5.7.2. I have copied both a DVD Film and a DVD PS2 game. Neither of these two will work in the PS2 but both are recogised by the DVD writer as valid disks. Is this a problem then with the way they are written or by the PS2.
I followed the copy insructions for Nero from WWW.PSXCOPYWORLD.COM.

You might need modchip to work with dvdr backup games.

DVDR backup works with NEO 2.5 DVD Modchip but still need Gameshark 2 v1.71, 1.91 or 1.93 to work with dvdr backup games.

NEO2 is not really up to the job. Sometimes worksmost times not. There are significant timing problems.
Depends which PS2 you have as to the effectiveness of NEO2.5 DVD-Key. v5 PS2 is a very convoluted process. v4 is the DVD Boot method posted at www.chipzone.com and elsewhere.
