i am about to fit a mod for my 8 year old ,but am unsure which set up would be best? i know dvd region x and neo is simple and he can use it no bother, but was unsure about the usb chip thing{forgotten what is called},and the ar2?i am also going to install it myself, hence the attraction of the one wire solder, but ,is it compatable with region x as the ar2 sounds a bit to complex?if im pretty confident with the solder is it just as well to go for a fully wired chip?help, please and thanks.

Dust4Dust will tell you that for kids, the Messiah/Clone is the only near kid-proof solution. (I say near, because of the cola and stuff that gets spilled if they haven't got any swapping to do).

These mods will became more available in the coming weeks (I've just got my second purchase).

The USB mods are useless. They need some synchronisation (like turning it on at the right momenet) and there are complex procedures for burning protected games (like EA sports). It won't boot DVD backups etc. AR2 is needed to boot EA games because DVDRX is for simple swaps. All-in-all it's a bad deal in this stage of PS2 game evolution.

More complex chips are commensurately difficult to install. If you have a v5 PS2, then the Messiah is not too difficult to install if you have a 15w iron, a 0.1mm tip, 33 or 35 swg wire, an 8x magnifying glass and you've soldered before. Otherwise ship the PS2 to a pro (like my mate round the corner) and have it done properly.
