Is there a Patch for WIN XP to allow install of AOE2?

Hey guys/gals, I am new to this forum. I just bought a new computer with Win XP installed. I keep trying to install Age of Empires 2 The age of kings, and it gets hung up at 4% install. I need to install AOE2 The age of kings, to install AOE2 The Conquores. If anyone can help me out that would be great! Thanks alot for any info you can provide.
