Help needed to copy cd 1 of Emperor of Dune

When I go to install the game using a copy of the first cd it keeps asking for the cd anybody have a crack of the setup file as I can play the game with copied cd's if I install it first using the original no.1 cd and then apply the game & emperor exe's from this site after this I can play the game using copied cd's 2-4 for the 3 houses.

I have just tried something and it works with me.
Can someone else try the following to test it works also please.

1) make a 'full install' of the game onto harddrive.

2) copy the 'game.exe & emperor.exe' files ONLY from this site to the installed game directory.

3) Then burn the game directory from harddrive back to a blank cdrom (its about 550/600mb).

UNINSTALL the complete game from your harddrive then COPY the game folder from the cdrom you have just made to your harddrive.
The game should run as normal then as the house discs can be copied with clone cd.
REMEMBER to copy the game/emperor exe files only and not the recourse.cfg/desypher files as you won't beable to play the house discs if you do.

SORRY this is a cowboy way of doing this but it will have to do untill a fixed install.exe file is released.

Please try it and if you have any probs please let me know ASAP...

Yep worked for me even copied to a different dir. not sure havnt tested on a system that has never seen the game before though.

But if that works its just fine for me smart thinking psyclone

The system you try it on MUST have dx8 installed remember !!!

Or this method will not work as you are copying a already installed game onto your harddrive.

Westwood did the same thing with Red Alert 2.
They put copy protection into the Setup.exe.
I expect it`ll end up being just like Red Alert 2.
copy the whole of Disc 1 onto your hard-drive, replace the setup.exe with the cracked version, then burn the disc. install and then apply the cracked version of emperor.exe.
just a shame no-ones finished cracking the setup.exe yet.
oh well, soon hopefully.

Bummer now i have another problem when i do the copy of the install directry back to the hard drive I can't change the keyboard settings and i don't have the original no more.

You have to remove the "read-only" attribute.

The trick with cd-1 worked for me, but I have a problem with burning the house cd's. When using clone-cd, the burning stops at 8% everytime.

House Discs : Copy disc to HDD. Burn with original CD name using Easy CD-Creator.
When I treied to do it with Clone CD, my system would re-boot when I tried to ####t the burn

Just wanted to tell you guys that I was successfully able to use Clone CD ver 2.8.5.2 and a Plextor 12/10/32 to clone all 4 CDs. Even the install CD worked. Just used Clone CD to make an image file on my HD. Selected to read subchannel data from data and audio tracks and also selected fast error skip. Then burned the image using the default Clone CD settings.

Yeah, Plextor rules I´ve been able to backup, Black and White, Desperados, #### Trek: Elite Force. Without any problems.
Took about 30 min to read the laserlock protection in Desperados though, with my reader. While the others where done in about 18minutes, safedisk 1&2 I assume.. What other protections are out there? I might go out and buy a game with a weirdo protection just to see if I´m able to make a backup of it. =)

right i copied whole cd dir to my hdd.
added the cracked setup.exe..
burnt it onto cd using EZ CD..
i uninstalled my Dune..
i tried to install with *backup* and it said plz insert correct cd..

do i need to change anything else?

can somebody give a little more detail about over writing the game file. can't find which folder it is in once the cd is copied to my hard drive. also what was that about read only files.

Ok you need to overright the emperor exe file in the main dir. were you installed the game. i used the game & emperor exe's found on this site both go to the main dir. were you installed the game to. Next make sure the game runs with no cd. From here copy the contents of the dir. were you installed the game to to a cd. uninstall the game and copy the cd back to the hard drive hence no need for a install of the game now as many have had problems with trying to install the game with a copy of the 1st cd.

As for the read only atribute there is a file in the main dir. were you installed the game to called keys.map change it so its not read only good idea to do this before doing the copy. As if ya don't you cant remap the keys in the option section of the game.

I guess the only way for this to work the correct way is to wait for a setup.exe crack or to learn how to crack protections.

hmm.. seems a lot of people have trouble copying emperor, and, well, i've got the DEViANCE release of the game, 4cd's, cracked exe included, and setup.exe works fine if you use one of the included serials.

Hiho Buddies. Dunno! Emperor even won´t work a all for me... First of all installed PlayBackup and Daemon were detected... Setup fails. Okay, made an OWN! partition and OS only for Emperor.. Yeah, setup works! Dunno, next "error". Says to me... Pleeezeee insert original disc. Oh yeah, thnaks Westwood. Original IS inserted... Looked at GCW. Damned it. Only other languages supported (got the german release, sorry, forgot to mention).

So I tried to download Westwoods own fix. But the server still remains busy and busy... Unable to suck the file. Bloody Westwood!

Is there anyone out there havin´ another link to get the german fied setup and game.exe.

How to make a cracked copy with the Westwood fix:

CD 1:

1. Copy the full contents of the CD to a TempDir.
2. Replace the original SETUP.EXE in the SETUP folder (not the one in the root!) with the one from the archive.
3. Replace the original EMPEROR.EXE in the INSTALL folder with the EMPEROR.EXE file from the archive.
4. Burn it to a CD-R and use this CD label: EMPEROR1

CD 2, 3, 4:

1. Just copy the full contents of the disc to a TempDir and burn it on a CD-R with the correct label.

It works! I've done it this way.
