MPEG on DVD

i have encoded a .avi file to a .mpg file and after i burn the file into a VCD format using Nero i goto play the vcd on my DVD player and all i get is a black screen and the time is skipping up could sum1 please help me?

i have sorted it out so the time doesn't skip but now all i get is sound and a distorted picture of colours could sum1 please help me i am using Nero Burning Rom to make the Video cd if that helps n e 1

it's ok now guys i have sorted it out and i can now watch them on my dvd player
