Hello I Need A Patch For Diablo 2 That Will Let Me Back It Up And Still Let Me Play Online

Can Some One Help Me I Looked At the patches on the site, BUT, from the nfo i got the idea that no internet play would be enabled.
I would use the origional but somethimes i leave it in the drive then not even God knows what will happen to it!
