games CRASHING!!!!!!!!!!!!HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im having some problems with playing onine games like nhl 2001 and nba 2001 ,when i do the steps to go to connect to a game the game crashes(it goes to my desktop)

it could possibly be because i downloaded a patch for nhl 2001 off of easports.com that fixes things for nhl 2001-but it sais that the game crashes if you dont delete any files/saved games with the name NHL2K***.GAM(*** means any #)

i found a file named NHL2K002.GAM and i deleted it.
IT did'nt do any thing.

But because its called NHL2K002.GAM there must or should be a file called NHL2K001.GAM,I searched for it and i cannot find it.

So that patch i got could be the problem but not for sure.
please help out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could be as you say m8,not being funny here,have you a good enough graphics card to run it?
and have you got the correct direct X.....say version 8.0 installed...and not say direct X version 7.0?
