I'm going to Malaysia in a weeks time. Now I'm thinking of getting a PS2, but know very litttle about them. So I was hoping someone here might give me some quick answers.

What PS2 version should I look for? And which modchip?

Are PS2 games DVD or CDs? Can I backup the games using a CD-ROM and CD-RW?

Once the PS2 is modded does that mean it can play NTSC and Pal games?

Lastly, should I consider getting the XBOX - but only if in the near future the games can be backup? Any opinions here?

Cheers

ANSWER: Others will disagree - but JAP SCPH 35000 with OrigaChip 1.25 as it will boot PAL originals in the UK as well as US and, of course, JAP originals. Plus it will do DVDRs with a very simple swap using DVD Region X as the boot disk.

ANSWER: New games today are DVD. To mid 2001, mainly CD. Yoiu can back up CD games to a CD-R (not CD-RW); you can buy a Pioneer A03 and then make DVD-Rs.

Once the PS2 is modded does that mean it can play NTSC and Pal games?
ANSWER: Get it modded and it will play both NTSC & PAL games.

Lastly, should I consider getting the XBOX - but only if in the near future the games can be backup? Any opinions here?
ANSWER: No opinion other than the number of mainstream titles is somewhat light on XBOX.

Cheers

Thanks for helping Charlie, but how can you tell if the game is dvd or cd? Does it say on the disc or cover?

Is a dvd-r the only way to burn dvd games?

dvd is silver or gold and cd is blue. or look on the back of the game case down the bottom and you will see a logo saying what is it ie: compact disc or dvd rom

Where ya from? I can tell u that it is really HARD to get version other than 30006R in Malaysia, you might manage to get one but they are either re-con or the price had been marked up. You might want to get 30006R (HK & M'sia version) in Malaysia with USD302.00 since the non-solder modchip (exclusively for this version) is available now in Lik Sang ( h**p://www.lik-sang.com/catalog/product_info.php?category=3&products_id=1688&. ).
