dunno if anyone is interested but i got a bit fed up with my kids scratching the hell outta my playstation and dreamcast games etc.....the main one i wanted to protect was the ACTION REPLAY 2 disc as you cant make a back up of this i believe, or you can but still need an original to boot which is just stupid anyway.

to get to the point i went into a branch of DIXONS and got a pack of five DAS CD/CD-R/DVD PROTECTORS.

they dont work well on dreamcast games but work a treat on my AR2v2 disc.......its just a thin see thru film that covers the data side of your cd. a little tricky to apply to the disc but well worth it, esp as the AR2 etc cost like £30.

hope this helps,

cheers. PS the labels are £2.99 a pack at present.

The data is very much nearer the top than the bottom!!

Scratch the top and you'll likely get through to the data. Scratch the bottom, you'd have to scratch 5 times (ish) as hard to reach the data, though some scratches can deflect the laser. So whilst it might be a reasonable bet for the lens side of the disk to be protected in this way, I heartily recommend protecting the top!

It looks interesting, have anyone tried on this? Will it jeopardize the disk balancing when spinning?

It won't affect the disk balance if it is evenly stuck on. The disk is well clamped by it's conical spindle.
