is it possible to copy a ps2 game and somehow play it without a modchip?

is there a boot disc i can download and burn on a cd that will let me play backups?

are any ps2 games protected?

no.

don't you think if that was possible, they'd make the games to download bootable without mod in the first place? it's not possible and will never be. no burner is capable of reproducing the copy protection.

EA Sports games require a patch or a special booting tech for backups.

no. for all of them, you need to swap with a gameshark or region X, except the messiah and the neo 4. the latter still needs a swap for DVD-R games, and both are very expensive and hard to install, as well as near impossible to get (especially the messiah.. neo 4 is getting more common again).
