What is the point of boot cds to play copies if you need a mod chip
to boot the boot cd? I have seen countless newbies download images
for these boot cds thinking that they are an alternative to mod chips.

And why cant you copy a working boot CD anyway?

Typical idiot's question!
Answer this and you have the answer to your question -
Can you run ANY PSX backup without a modchip or something that acts like one?

Ask yourself why do I need a mod-chip to play a PS back up. On all PS disk there is a security sector that does not get copied, thats why you need a mod-chip and also why a downloaded boot disk does not work with out a mod-chip.

If it is a boot cd that you buy they work great. You dont need a mod chip to use them.they are more convenient than mod chips you can take them to a friends playstation that doesnt have a mod chip without taking your whole system

Most are used as a alternative to patching as in getting around antimod protection and region code (ntsc to pal ) ECT.
