I've got sython filter 3 and all I need to know is has it got copy write protection and will I need a patch in order to make a back up of it.

no patch is needed, jus backup with clonecd (if your burner is 100% compataible)

The answer to your question is NO, both the ntsc and the pal version do not have protection.
