View Full Version : Alone In The Dark
Does anyone of you know how to pacth Alone In The Dark the new nightmare?. I've been trying to make a backup myself but >(. My backup starts just fine but the caractheres got no voice. Kind of weird ain't? :o
I find it weird that you would want to patch this, seeing as it is not protected.
That's the weird thing you know :( . Because my backup works just fine but the only thing it's that the characters got no voice. >(
I think there is something with the wav file but who knows :'( I hope you do :)

What copy prog. did you use?cdrwin etc.Did you use the correct settings and copy at the right speed I.E.x1 or x2?Hope this helps.
Ignore the e-mail I sent you!
Does the source from which you are making a copy work? Is that a backup? Do you know its origin like which country?
As it doesn't need patching, could you have used CloneCD? Is there a bad sector on your original which happens to be in the sound files and you had ignore read errors ticked?
I'll try that. But it doesn't seem to be that but who knows. Thx for you help.
The crappy thing is that the original game works fine and the backup too. The only problem it's that it doesn't have sound.
How can i explain you got the sounds effects but not the voices of the characters.

Think I know the answer here...
As I understand it, you get the SFX alright, you're just missing the voice overs.
The SFX data is stored somewhere within the general program data. The voice over parts are stored separately as audio data. This means that if the part of the disc where the audio (voice) data is either corrupt, dirty or whatever, it will not read it. Therefore, the game will keep running okay (you will see the mouths move), but no sound will be played as the PSX will still be looking for the audio data.
Have had this problem myself with a couple of other uncared-for originals which gave similar results.
So, clean the CD-Writer's lens, the original disc and try making another copy.
Good luck!
I find I can make a copy of both disks of this game with no problems at all.
The only problem I find is that once you complete disc 1 and it asks you for disc 2, it makes a check of disc 2 before you can play on. My copies fail this check every time. :(
Could this be because I am using a cartridge/spring combination to play my backups? I haven't seen any info on this problem from anyone else - am I missing something obvious?
Someone has released a patch to fix this very same problem on the Dreamcast version of the game, but not the PSX one.
Any info you guys could provide me with would be much appreciated! :)
