I recently bought Ridge Racer V from the Family Video Mart. They were selling it because alot of people were complaining about how it didn't work due to scratches. I tried it and, sure enough, it doesn't work. My CD ROM reads it fine, but I heard that games that are out for rent have a different copy protection on them! Is this true? The PPF or PFF or whatever they are patcher says it is a different type of BIN and PPF. A little help here please??

No, Rented games do not have any special protection. they are the same as the games you or i would purchase from the store.

The U.K PAL Ridge Racer has NO protection on it what-so ever and when I backed-My copy up I used WinOnCD 3.8 Power Ad. Disc --> Disc 2x 'on the fly' CD ROM ------->Plextor CD-r.

The are ONLY a few u.k games that are protected mostly EA Sports but NHL / Fifa 2001 / SSX / Tigerwoods are **NOW** CRACKED and their PPF cracks can now be found all-over the net.

P.S) These games now once patched will then obviously boot with NeoKEY modded PS2's
