View Full Version : Somthing to share
I've mod my PS2 V5 with a mod chip which i really don't know what brand is that. The reason being that its all done by a PS2 Mod Installer shop here in singapore. But the guy was saying its a Neo clone. How true is that, there's no way i can confirm. anyway it cost only $60 Singapore dollars or about 34 USD for the purchase of the Modchip + Installation. Takes about 2 days.
Just to share, for PAL users you can acutally use the DEMO disc that came with your PS2 to swap, so that you can play your dvdr. There's no need to purchase DOA2, Devil May Cry or GTA3. I've personally tried it and have successfully loaded and started playing most of my DVDRs including FFX.
There swap method is abit different from what I've seen here, maybe I can share and for those who can't boot using all the method found on this board, maybe you can try mine, Hopefully it will work for you.
Here's how it goes:
1)Turn on the power switch from the rear (Red Light Will Be ON)
2)Press [OPEN] to open the CD TRAY (Green Light Will Be ON)
3)Put [AR2 Disc 1] on the CD Tray
4)Press [RESET] 2 times before CD Tray closes
5)Menu Screen will appear, Press [OPEN] and take out the [AR2 Disc 1]. Place an [Original PS2 DVD Disc]. Press [OPEN] to close the CD Tray.
6)Wait for few seconds. (Blue Light Will Start Flashing). Select [Start Game], follow by [Without Code]
7)Wait for few seconds CD Tray will Open, remove [Original PS2 DVD Disc] and replace with [PS2 Backup DVD]
8)CD Tray will close automatically
9)Press [X] to start game
Do let me know if it helped you to boot successfully.
FYI : AR2 refers to action replay version 1.9 and the origanal DVD refer to the demo disc that came with your PS2
Thanks everyone for replying my posts all these while
I also have a v5 pal ps2 and I'm looking for a modchip that allows you to play dvdr. Are you sure that your ps2 is a v5 pal? (I thought that AR2v1,9 didn't work on a v5 pal) Can you let me know which modchip do you have exactly? Does anyone know about this method?
Jack
You say in the post that you can boot DVDRs with the PAL Demo disk yet you describe the AR2 boot method.
What are the steps for the PAL Demo Disk method?
What else does the chip do? Play Import Originals?

Hmm Yes according to all the advice given by some of you, there are 3 screws in my expansion slot, I guess i will take some photos and sent it to you guys, maybe you can correct me if I am wrong.
Exactly which modchip I've got no ideal but the installer was telling me that its a so nero clone.
Hang on a min in there's I'll email you the photos later today.

So sorry charlie, its my mistake, it does not really boot with the demo disc, I should be saying that I am using the AR2 boot method, but swapping it with the Pal Demo Disc instead of buying a brand new DOA2 DVD. It just to save some cash.
The chip basically allows you to play copied DVDR (irregardless of Region- NSTC,PAL,JAP). It allows the playing of Copied CDs of both PS1 and PS2.
I am sad to say that it does not play imported Orginal DVDs

I Might be wrong, but like i say i've been looking thro this board to determine that mine is a V5 console, so maybe I can take some photos later on and sent it to you for verification?

sorry mate, the demo disc is not really a boot up disc
its just a swap disc for you to use using the so called AR2 boot method, It other words, you don't need to buy a Original DVD game that have a large TOC. the Demo disc will do just fine.
Regards
My ps2 is also a SCPH-30004R. I do not know sure if it is a v5. Can anybody tell us if jack's ps2 is a v5?
The AR is version 1,92! (I thought it didn't work with v5!)
You say that you run your dvdr's using the demo disc as a swap disc: I thought that it was necessary a dvd with a larger TOC than your dvdr, and you say that with the demo disk you can play FFX, which has more than 4 GB of TOC. How can this be?

Hmm, well I've sucessfully loaded it and started playing, I'll see what i can do, maybe i can record a short clip with my digital camera and sent it to you.
Jack kindly sent me the photos but the vital shot was missing, looking down on the expansion bay and showing especially the right hand end (towards the centre of the PS2). The screw's the clew.

Hmm, I think that there's no screws at the center of the Expansion Slot, but I'll check it again, the reason is that I've sent in for servicing, apperently my AR2 1.92 kinda hanged after it boot up. I'll let you guys know tomorrow.
Btw have you guys encounter such problem before? I tried entering a new code into my AR2, but after I tried to save the 3rd code, IT gives a "Hardware Error" and prompted me to restart the PS2, after that It simply refuses to load up my PS2 Codes, but it works fine if i boot up using the PS code disc (Disc 2)
HI mates,
sorry for the late reply,
Yupez, I;ve check my PS2 again, you are right charlie, there are no other screws excepts those shown on the photos,
Sorry that I've mixed things up abit, really thought that 3 screws include the small little one on the left. SO i guess that a version 5 got a total of 4 screws?

There is a difference in AR2 v 1.9 and 1.92. A 1.9 wont work on a v5 where a 1.92 will, I dont know much about PAL PS2's but i would think the boards are the same as a US, NTSC PS2 so if you have 3 screws visible in the expansion bay it would be a v5. 2 screws a v4.

So AR v 1,92 does work with pal v5? Which modchip is required for runing dvdr's with AR v 1,92?

If its a v5 you will need a x-key (dvd version) modchip or a messiah.
Where can I find info about x-key (dvdversion)? Does it need swap? Do you need AR , dvd region x or something like that? It works perfectly well with dvdr in a v5 (neo 2,5 was supposed to work and it does not work!)?

I ordered mine from lil-sang. it does require single swap for PS2 cdr backups double swap for dvdr's and yes you still need a gameshark2 or AR2 to boot the backups. This is about the best chip at present for Us v5 owners.
So Nightstalker, mine is a version 5 board??
Is it possible for me to email you some of the pics that I've sent to charlie to verify?
I'm kinda confuse here, I don't want myself to be giving false information to others here, everything works fine for me thou, so I would appreciate if you can verify it for me, so I can share with the rest of the people here.

Is the lil-sang x-key any different than consolesource.com's Neo2.5? Lil-sang refers to the x-key as "X-Key(Neo 2.5)" and the picture looks identical. I hope the Neo 2.5 will work on a US v5 because I already ordered one. Do you know differently?

As far as i know the 2.5 will work on a v5 for cdr backups. The x-key dvd version has a added feature that allows it to load dvd-r backups, The v5 PS2 doesnt support the EA boot method so a regular neo 2.5 chip will not support dvdr backups.
