Is it true that if I buy a Japanese PS2, I won't be able to play US Games? My friend said that the Japanese PS2 can only play Japanese made games and not the US games they sell here.
your friend is right, you will have to install a mod chip and make a backup of the us game in order to play it on a jap system.
At last someone has realized that the japanese system
is NOT NTSC!
The japanese system is PAL exactly the same as the European system or Region 2 as known on DVD format.
(Except France which is PalSecam as in Morocco)
Whoever said that japan's system is NTSC based has been very badly informed as i have read in a few
messages on this forum.
That's why you can find the Japanese PS2 in a few selected shops around Europe at a very high price.
I have seen it at £700 pounds,That's about $1400 dollars.
A REAL RIP OFF.
Computer Exchange in Rathbone Place does the Jap PS2 for around £375. Anyway, about that NTSC thing - If the Jap PS2 was as PAL as you say, how come it won't play UK DVDs? At least not on my chipped PS2.
I have noticed however that an NTSC backup will only play in colour on my PAL TV through the AV sockets if I go through an NTSC - PAL convertor and PAL backups will only play in colour on my PAL TV through the AV sockets if I bypass the NTSC-PAL convertor.
That suggests to me that the PS2 puts out what it sees on the disk.
Does anyone know any more? Especially how to get UK DVDs playing on a Jap PS2.
Cheers all
