I own a Jap PS2, not sure what type, and it has a chip, not sure what chip. I live in Australia, so all the games I get are PAL. I have successfully burnt compact disc ps2 games using CDRwin, ASA patcher, and a CDRom burner, but whenever I try to burn DVD's it doesn't work. I'm relatively sure I rip them correctly and then apply the ASA patcher, but it still doesn't seem to be enough. Do i have to apply a DVD region patch, or something because i'm trying to play Australian DVD's on my Jap PS2? Any help would be appreciated. I hope i have supplied enought info.
I understand from your post that you've ripped a DVD to CD (not copied a DVD to DVD-R).
I also assume that you boot backups using the Utility Disk as the Boot Disk. This constrains your rips to be 624MB TOC (as in Properties in Windows Explorer). If they are larger, like closer to 700MB, you can't play the rips unless you load an image of DVD Region X behind the Utility Disk and then the rip behind that.

Thanks Charlie for your hasty reply and yes, all your assumtions are correct.
Where do I get a copy of the DVD Region X? Do I simply use it as another back-up disc and put it in the ps2 after i use the utilities disc? Thanks once again.
you can get a copy of Dvd Region x from
kaneaction.co.uk , just choose the region of your machine..
utility disk first, when it comes out - put the Region x in and when that comes out , your back up.
The DVDRX has to be a JAP version. Also try madeira games or lik-sang (the above banner).
You'll need to make a backup of DVDRX with CDRWin and it has to be patched with the Universal or ASA Patcher before being burned back to CD.
Then you boot with the Utility Disk
Swap in the DVDRX patched backup
When the screen with region numbers appears, press EJECT
Swap in the DVD Rip
Click START on your game controller and hopefully the rip will load
