To all the experts where ever they are....
I am a rookey on the backing up PS2 subject.
What do I need for backing up my PS2 CDs and for playing them ? is it only the burning software? or do I need to make any changes in my PS2 H/W (I have the europian model)?
what is the best burning s/w? and how do I use it?
Thanks.
hi m8,
alright first up u'll need to get yourself a ps2 modchip, the current favourite is the NEO 2 chip which you can order from:
www.pmcmodchips.com
There are a few wires u'll need to solder, so if u know ne1 that is handy with a soldering iron it is best to some help from them since this is pretty expensive kit u r dealing with. Alternatively, i am sure there is somebody near where u live who chips ps2's but i know where i live they are charging around £30-£40 for them =\
This chip involves you swapping discs around (ie. loading a proper disk and then quickly changing it for a copied one). You can also do this trick without a modchip but it is pretty hard and a bit risky if u r unsure of what u r doing. Chack out:
www.megagames.com
for more info, since i think they have a tutorial on how to do it in their ps2 section.
As far as software goes u'll need either a copy of CDRWIN (which i recommend the most) or CD-CLONE, or both would be ideal. If u decide not to use a patch then the games will need patching. They are patched in the same way as the original psx games and there is both a tutorial on how to do this as well as all the patches u will need at www.megagames.com.
I don't think u need to patch the games if u r copying games to be used on the NEO 2 chip so if your writer supports cd-clone, u'd probably be best off using that as you won't need to mess around with patches like you would with CDRWIN.
Anyway, i hope thats of some use to you and if u have any more questions then mail me at: uniquestudios**********com

sorry i wrote
'if u decide not to use a patch, then the games will need patching',
when i actually mean't:
'if u decide not to use a modchip, then the games will need patching'
hehe, hope that makes more sense now =)
