Any Luck with Switched Mod Chip?

I have a Mod Chip in my Playstation and somewhere I read that you can shut it off. Is this possible? Do I need a certain mod chip?

If you take out the right wire connecting the mod chip to the psx, the chip would be shut down and be able to play real protected games. If you want to play copys reconnect the wire
