What is an .rar file?

Can someone please tell me what type of file an .rar is? I noticed in with the game day 2001 patch and I am not sure what to do with it.

.rar is like .zip..

it contains a couple of files i gues.

a rar file is a compressed file! you need an extraction program called winrar. you can find the software at:
